I think they are working on it, but you can tell Nintendo is having a really hard time with getting everything tied together.

I've been considering get a Wii U but with all the recent news of it failing horribly and the rumors of a new console I've gotten cold feet. So I have a question for all you Wii U owners. Is it worth buying or is it better to wait and see if it gets dropped?

It was worth it to me. I'm not sure what you want to hear. It's incredibly unlikely they will drop it.

The new console is a health related console. In Nintendo's address to the investors they mentioned their plan to access a new blue ocean related to gaming in relation to health. A lot of patents Nintendo has recently filed in relation to console technology relate to health and wellness. Expect a different piece of hardware that has that as a focus, not a new piece of hardware to replace the Wii U. The system is good. The games are fun. Even more fun with more people around you to play with. I enjoy it and it fits my needs.

From a casual Nintendo fan standpoint, there are three things I want from a Nintendo console: 1) New Zelda, 2) New Metroid, and 3) New RPGs. If I can't get those, then I'm not interested.

Hey, nothing wrong with that. I do hope that they provide some RPGs that utilize the pad in cool and unique ways. Penny Arcade's comic waaaayyyy back in the day that painted the picture of the system being a literal D&D toolbox seems like a brilliant idea that would cause people to go nuts, in my opinion.

With the Zelda franchise, Nintendo is walking the line of overdoing it. It is difficult for a game to chance up the system slightly, while keeping the core concept in tact. With so many games in the franchise now, I see it being difficult for Nintendo to keep the pace up. Look back at WindWaker when it was released on the Gamecube. It received enormous flak for the visual change, even though it is an incredibly engaging and entertaining title.

With Metroid... you are right there needs to be more Metroid. I feel like that is the franchise that can be changed the most with the least amount of backlash. You saw its success with the prime series and I really believe that you can continue to push the envelope of what a Metroid game is. Will they do it? Who knows.

I find that Nintendo's games get punished for doing things differently in the short term. Over time, people look back at them and really enjoy them, but at the time, people show disinterest.

This is exactly why all these "news" articles and talk about how bad the Wii U is doing is pissing me off!

Media is sensationalized, and all these "reports," dating back a year, are probably what's hurting consoles sales the most at this point (although, yes, the whole first year had a weak game library, I wish for a better online Nintendo account system and whatnot, and will admit to other problems, however trivial).

Reports of how Wii U sales suck > People get skeptical about the console > More reports of how U sales suck > More people put off getting it > Reports of how U sales REALLY suck because people got scared off from buying one because of such reports > a LOT of people decide not to get it > reports of how the U is in imminent danger or some kind of catastrophic financial situation with Nintendo > larges amount of people decide not to buy a U because they think it's a "failure" of a console, or will be a failure.

If you like Nintendo games, just get the console already. If you're worried about future support, then what can I say, I guess you just don't like Nintendo games that much.

I'm right there with you Ziggy. I'm really lukewarm on everything covering this lately, here I was or AM definitely in the belief that this has been an amazing time to be a big Nintendo fan again. I'm absolutely loving my Wii U and I definitely don't believe they'll ditch it that soon.

That said I'm definitely listening to some of their plans and hope they go through with a few things that have needed to be done for awhile now.
- Nintendo ID's
- Better shop interface, hopefully combining the Wii selection, and offering more (the Sony Japan store is insane, but the US selection isn't bad either and trumps what Nintendo has done with the VC lineups. The Wii selection is pretty amazing, but it's largely thanks to Sega and other systems being on there, otherwise the actual Nintendo stuff are the same 10 games we all probably own and have kept around already. They have a behemoth of a library to work with... hopefully they step it up).

I can also agree that there is a small lack of good big hitters out there, but what was the last console you guys played that had classics left and right the moment it was out the door? Nothing about the PS3's launch interested me, took a year or two for the 360 to start piling up some goods, and the PS4/One look no different. So I'm kind of baffled at how Nintendo always gets slammed more than the rest when it comes to this. And at this point it does have one of the greatest Mario games around on it along with a great Zelda HD port that should hold over diehard fans.

That said, I think I will argue I want them to be even busier. They definitely aren't lazy, and this previous gen has burned me out immensely on annually released series, so I am actually very happy we're not getting yearly Metroid, Zelda, Mario, etc games, but that said... they can still do a little more than they have been. Metroid always goes into a weird stasis after awhile (I'll never forget the N64 void), and then there's all their other awesome IP's some of us fans are dying to see strike again, Star Fox, F-Zero, etc. I have no idea why Hyrule Warriors or whatever exists either, if anything, it would have made FAR more sense to make a Dynasty Warrior release based in the Fire Emblem universe. I would have been pumped for that. How about a huge crossover game that includes elements of just about every big IP they have? It'd be Kingdom Hearts level fan fiction come to life... but who would not eat it up and love it? It'd be hilarious and amazing to see Mario, Samus, Link, Fox, etc all playable and working together in something beyond a fighter.

The next Xeno is popping up in just about every single WiiU article out there. If Nintendo fails to take advantage of the heat there, damn. I don't know if this is just NoA, but they really need to step it up with some of the marketing too I believe. It's a damn shame games like Wonderful 101 are barely pushing numbers, but it's like I can't really blame that because you never hear about half of these amazing titles that come to Nintendo platforms sometimes. Maybe this isn't exactly Nintendo's fault, but it's been an issue for years now. Let's not take Operation Rainfall lightly, there are markets out there they are failing to capture, so Nintendo needs to get these things more exposure.

My ideas:
- Fire Reggie
- Double or triple the size of Retro studios, or invest in another studio or two of this caliber. These guys have proved themselves plus some at this point, they are the new Rare. Put any classic Nintendo IP in their hands and it's going to be gold.
- Stick to the 1-2 major Mario, Zelda, etc, releases a console. But, fill in the void in between with other big releases of Metroid, Star Fox, F-Zero, Smash, Kirby, etc.
- Hug it out with Monolithsoft, because they still more than likely have a lot of the legendary staff that were around Square Soft in the 90's. You want good first party JRPG's, these guys should be the go to team.
- Let Nintendo develop a Sonic game. It'll be the best one since the Genesis games.
- Treat other exclusives like Platinum's stuff, etc, better and improve the exposure.
- Forgive yourself for coming up with the dumbest console name ever, and come up with something better and that actually sounds like a completely new thing next time.

lol

So yeah, I have a lot of faith this is a good time to be enjoying the Nintendo stuff again. But I definitely want to spank them over several times as well and hope to see them work on some of the issues I've highlighted.

Seriously, I think the media is overreacting. But Nintendo is speaking up and looking into change and that can be good.

Ziggy, Xeogred...I couldn't agree with you more. The Wii U does have flaws and it really is steeped in its on-line infrastructure and it NEEDS to be addressed quickly, but what is out there now, is great. Xeogred, you reference the Xbox 360's launch and I couldn't be in agreement with you more. They had nothing until almost a year when Dead Rising came out. People really believed the system was kaput from its lack of titles.

Nintendo is doing a good thing here, something they did during the Gamecubes life and that is licensing out their characters to other developers. I know Hyrule Warriors seems really strange and it would be a better fit for Fire Emblem, but I do feel that the Zelda name is what is important there.

I want to see more people working with Nintendo's characters in a new and different way. That seems to be one of the only ways Nintendo can keep hold of 3rd party developers is to give them a piece of Nintendo to work with even in small doses like hidden characters (remember Mario and Luigi in the NBA street basketball game for the gamecube?).

They have been playing it too safe with what they have and I understand... people are hesitant towards change. If it is not immediately familiar the first time they pick it up, they disregard it i.e. Wonderful 101.

I want to see more uses of the pad. In all honesty the only one that really embraced it fully that I have experienced has been Zombi U... a launch title. I am chomping at the bit for more.

As a Wii-U fan-in-waiting, it would take something special to put me over the edge - if you want me to buy a console, give me something I either can't resist or can't find anywhere else. Obviously, first-party IPs are a must - as I mentioned earlier, Zelda and Metroid are must-buys for me. There are tons of other, equally unique and impressive franchises out there though: Rune Factory, Starfox, Harvest Moon, Devil Survivor, Mega Man, River King, Bomberman, etc, etc, - the list can go on forever. Come on Nintendo, there is an absolute plethora of quality titles to choose from, you just need to make them happen!
