Let's also keep in mind that a lot of that value isn't arbitrary; none of the Nintendo's games appear on other companies' platforms, and very rarely do they release games of less than stellar quality. Both of those aspects will rightfully keep value up.

Re: Switch Discussion Thread
Referencing the PS4 getting a bunch of ports or hd remasters as a "defense" for the Switch doing it, misses the mark a bit, when there were a bunch of people complaining about the same thing with the PS4, especially early on. So it isn't like the PS4 had a free pass from gamers, it probably got more flack than the Switch, mostly because more people owned a PS3 than the Wii U. So for awhile, gamers were like why buy a PS4? My PS3 plays all these too.

Re: Switch Discussion Thread
It's not a total free pass but PS4 starting balancing itself out with more new titles. Where Switch is now in its life is where PS4 was in 2014. So what people are saying is give it time and more new titles will release and balance the system out with older ports and newer games. We know a new Metroid, Bayonetta, Yoshi, Kirby, and Pokemon are on the way and more will come. SNK Heroines isn't an old port but a new game from a 3rd party. We will see more of that.Jmustang1968 wrote:Referencing the PS4 getting a bunch of ports or hd remasters as a "defense" for the Switch doing it, misses the mark a bit, when there were a bunch of people complaining about the same thing with the PS4, especially early on. Re: Switch Discussion Thread
I don't know. It's obviously just anecdotal evidence, but I don't personally remember as many people moaning about remasters and ports on the PS4. In fact I remember a lot of people not just being excited for the Last of Us and GTAV ports, but actively pushing for them prior to their announcements. And I think the Switch gets more flack for its ports/remasters being full retail price, when that was the case on PS4 too. But maybe my memories have got distorted with time.Jmustang1968 wrote:Referencing the PS4 getting a bunch of ports or hd remasters as a "defense" for the Switch doing it, misses the mark a bit, when there were a bunch of people complaining about the same thing with the PS4, especially early on. Re: Switch Discussion Thread
The PS4 stuff was a mix of full price and not, kind of depended in the game so it was both. Switch gets too much crap that's unfair. The releases it has had so far that are ports aren't very ancient, oldest maybe is Doom or Skyrim Remaster(PS4/One) nothing that's like years old I don't believe. It gets more garbage than not, especially from the entitled angry WiiU clingers angry about WiiU games going to Switch. Well duh, system sucked and sold bad, they'd like to make some true expected profit on those games they would have got had their system died out from under it.
Re: Switch Discussion Thread
How is Doom the oldest remaster? It's a game from 2016 released on a Switch in 2017. So far the oldest will be The World Ends with You which released in 2008. Skyrim and Dark Souls are from 2011 and the next oldest ports. But yeah mostly they are not that old. PS1 had 6-7-year-old SNES games ported to it.

Those are the absolute worst people - except for maybe the 'Bro-core', late teen/early 20s neckbeards that hate Nintendo for being Nintendo and have no interest ever buying anything Nintendo related, but love to troll the message boards anyways.Tanooki wrote:especially from the entitled angry WiiU clingers angry about WiiU games going to Switch.
Regarding the angry Wii U fans though, as someone who remained "loyal" (I've seen them use that word numerous times) to Nintendo, got a Wii U on launch day, still bought Wii U games after its demise and bought every major game I could on that platform, I really don't understand their mindset.
Personally I'm happy that A) More people are going to have the opportunity to play games I loved and B.) I have the option of picking up a version I can play on a portable device.
Some I might re-buy, particular my favourite Wii U games, just to have the 'best' version and to be able to play it both on the go and at home, Others I might not bother if I want to save money or I deem them too pricey. No one's holding a gun to my head and forcing me to re-buy them and I don't feel ripped off by having already bought those games x number of years ago, just because there's a fancier version available now.
There's no logic to those people's complaints.

Re: Switch Discussion Thread
I love the Wii U and want the entire library on the Switch.
Anyone who complains about ports to new systems, I better only see VHS tapes and no Blu-Rays on their shelves.

Exactly the same analogy I think of too.Xeogred wrote:I better only see VHS tapes and no Blu-Rays on their shelves.

Re: Switch Discussion Thread
If they love Nintendo, they'll realize that the Wii U was a disaster; continued support of the system only holds them back from actually being significantly more profitable again so they can push out more great games.
As far as the ports are concerned, the remaster trend was a bit annoying when you're talking about moving a game from PS3 or 360 to PS4/XB1, still tethered to a TV... although I'm not against them either when done well. The significant appeal on the Switch is that portability factor. The idea that you can play console-level games on the go has always been appealing, and even if some of it is last-gen gaming, I would argue that this is the generation where power is mattering less and less. The jump from PS3 to PS4 isn't nearly as big; we're getting to the point where the upgrades are going to be harder and harder to sell unless you need the horsepower to push something like VR.
