Yeah Gundam is massive. Luckily most of the series aren't connected so you can watch them in any order though. Which could be a drag if you binge them back to back.
I'm really happy with Iron Blood so far the teens aren't whiny or over dramatic for once .
Definitely check out Heavy Object though if your into mechs. It's freaking awesome.
darsparx wrote:@fragems I didn't even know they still made shows for gundam and such...I really need to binge watch it all now....I remember seeing some version of Gundam on toonami back before it got cancelled and remember it being a really good show. Well add that to the list of anime and other shows I need to watch
Dude, Gundam is one of the biggest franchises in Anime. They've been cranking out Gundam series, on and off, since 1979. If you think you can binge watch it all, you had better clear your schedule, and check the Wiki because there are a lot of Gundam series. Some of them take place in one universe, others take place in other universes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gundam#Franchise
Well back when it was originally on toonami I didn't know and still didn't really know(haven't even really thought about it in years since I've been more focused on trying to rewatch shows that used to air on Toon Disney which is next to impossible for me since they didn't even release every episode which sucks....). I do remember enjoying it though...way too much to watch anyways.....
Edit: also starting back into this so I'm on episode 319 of one piece. Yeah I was on 336 but I'd wanted to back back a few episodes...plus this one is hilarious

One day you'll catch up to me I'm only on Episode 715 . This show really is best watched in chunks. Literally half of each 22 minute episode is the opening, recap, and closing which can really bug you if your watching week to week.
Ehh I'm fine being behind with the Funi dub...though I wish there'd never been as big of a break in dubbing it like there was but hadn't really thought of finding another way of watching until the dub picked back up...

Rather than watching the entire original Mobile Suit Gundam (0079) series, I watched the 3 compilation movies. That made it much easier to get into the series without struggling through all 43 episodes and the filler that comes with that.
And while I enjoy Gundam (UC timeline, anyway) a great deal, I do think the original Macross TV series was easier to watch than the original Mobile Suit Gundam TV series.
Comparing Gundam UC timeline to Macross, Gundam UC has been a lot more consistent in quality, but I think Macross still has some competitive highs. Haven't seen anything Gundam that can compete with Macross Plus, and there's nothing Gundam UC that's as annoying as Macross 7.
IMO Macross is hands-down far superior to Gundam. I even like Macross 7 in a dumb-fun way! I found out recently that Macross: Do You Remember Love? is coming to blu-ray in January; I'm thinking I'll preorder it because I love that movie deeply, even though I've never seen it with subtitles.
I think it's been a while since I posted in this thread and have watched a few shows since:
Michiko & Hatchin - This show is great. The action is consistently fun to watch, the characters are all interesting, and the way it focuses on the relationships between women while simultaneously being an action show all make it stand out strongly in the world of anime. It's not perfect, a lot of the action is really good but not jaw dropping and some of the episodes feel a little too meandering but it's PRETTY EASY to look past those slight flaws and the end result is something I would highly recommend to just about anyone. I've previously seen (and loved) Sayo Yamamoto's take on Lupin III in The Woman Called Fujiko Mine and hope she's gets to direct a third series or movie before long!
Sasami: Magical Girls Club - okay, I like Tenchi Muyo and I like magical girl anime. I saw this on sale and figured it's worth giving a shot because there's no way it's the worst Tenchi-spinoff... well it turns out "probably better than Tenchi in Tokyo" isn't exactly a good way to seek out shows. It's mind-bogglingly bland. It has Sasami, Washu, Mihoshi, and Ryo-Ohki from Tenchi Muyo (and Misao from Pretty Sammy) but they all have different voice actors and I REALLY LIKE THE ORIGINAL VOICES! There were basically no jokes beyond "this character runs awkwardly" and "this character says nonsequiters" like any generic moe show; it's even worse than the Pretty Sammy TV show. It's completely not a parody and as far as magical girl shows, it offers nothing interesting or original. Girls find out they have magical powers, go back and forth between the world of witches, find out there are some BAD witches who don't like the human world, and in the end FRIENDSHIP IS THE MOST POWERFUL MAGIC. Bleh. I can't believe I watched the whole thing... but I guess it's another item to cross off on my list of being a psychotic-level Tenchi fan? I don't know why they used Tenchi characters though, none of them really acted like the original characterizations beyond Sasami being good at cooking and Mihoshi being an airhead.
Future Boy Conan (or Conan: The Boy in Future) - I'm only one episode in, watching on laserdisc with no subtitles, but wow, it's a knockout! I knew it was directed by Hayao Miyazaki but didn't expect so much of his style to permeate throughout the show! Post-apocalyptic setting, climate-change/environmental concerns, the high-tech villains are actually from "Industria," an encounter between Conan and a mysterious young girl, and absolutely masterful animation that perfectly expresses everything it wants to even without dialog. I can only hope that the rest of the show is this good!
I don't watch much anime these days but I've been watching One Punch Man. Violent, goofy fun.

I enjoyed Macross 7 for what it was but it could've been a much shorter series that got to the point much faster. I also really liked Frontier even though it seems to be pretty detested.

I watched about 140 episodes of Gundam this summer: Wing, MSG, and Zeta. I watched around 15 episodes of Wing a few years back because I saw a video about it and it looked cool so why not, and I bought some model kits because they also looked cool even though I hadn't watched the shows they were from. I saw Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3 at GameStop and bought it, thus starting my newest obsession.
So I restarted Wing so I could finally finish it. It was okay at first, but it dragged on and it really wasn't that good. Then I moved on to the original and Zeta, which were both amazing. Then school started again and I couldn't binge watch like I used to. But I did finish War in the Pocket which was both amazing and heartbreaking. I started X, G, and ZZ. I'm putting X and G on hold until I finish ZZ so I can start on Iron-Blooded Orphans since that looks cool.
