Do more shrines and you'll power up. In terms of armor you've already found the best stuff out of all the normal shops; the other places have elemental resistance (and by that I mean resistance to the elements, not to enemy attacks with properties). There is one set of armor that is potentially better, but it's very end-game (you need to do a ton of shrines to get the necessary drops to purchase it). As you do shrines you'll both get better weapons and you'll get a better handle on things, not to mention the extra heart containers. I've now done two Major Encounter shrines; the first involved spamming a ton of potions and using most of my weapons, the second one was a few broken weapons and no healing required.

I finished filling in the map tonight and I have found all but two of the saved locations. One of them is in such a generic forest area that I'm going to have to hope I can find the painter and he'll show me where it is. The other I think is around the castle, but I'm not super certain. I couldn't find any area that looked promising from the map, but I could be overlooking something. Once I get these two we'll see if that leads to something; otherwise I'll start progressing on the Guardian Beast quests.

Yeah, I have the same problem as Tanooki. I'm also wondering how you get stronger offence? Because even when I get more powerful weapons they still seem underpowered against even basic looking enemies. Also, since weapons break, you can be back to using a less strong weapon quite quickly...

Great game though. I'm looking forward to getting further into the game and exploring. I'm doing a lot of shrines at the moment.

I've got a question I would like to pose to the group here:

Obviously past games had a heavy emphasis on dungeons, you know, typical Zelda stuff. Now with a bunch of these shrines dotted all over the place (100 allegedly) and just four dungeons, does it "balance out" so to speak? Do you like or dislike this set-up?

For me I very much like this set-up thus far. I feel the content is more varied and most likely gave the devs more freedom to come up with some crazy designs. I've only done about 15 and one "traditional" dungeon, but I quite like this more than 8 or so themed dungeons.

Haha I'm going to sound dumb, but how? And in what way do they make you stronger? Temporarily?

There are really strong enemies out there. As you get deeper into the game, how do you actually defeat them? Stronger equipment? More heart containers? helps your defence, as does better armour/outfits. But what about offence?

There are certain fishe and certain fruits and vegetables that can make you stron German. Also certain weapons do more damage to certain enemies so it helps to know what works best against what. Also in many encounters, Nintendo designed a strategy to approach the situation. It won't make it easy, but it will help give you a leg up and it is important to recognize it when they are there. It isn't always the case, howewever.

I know I commented on this a few pages ago....but is anyone else playing Horizon: Zero Dawn right now as well? I am finding it really hard to get into Breath of the Wild because of how much better in almost every way HZD does so many of the same things. That's a shame, because BotW is a great Zelda game from the 4-5 hours I have spent with it so far, but there are quality and design gaps here that are hard to ignore....

I talked about this a page or two back, but I still prefer the big themed dungeons in the end. However I was worried going into this that I wouldn't get that sense of satisfaction and progression, but with all these shrines dabbled in around the map... I'm loving them and the vibe they give off.

Yeah, I can't really explain it with the "vibe" and subjective weirdness like that. I have my preference for the major dungeons in previous games, but I'm completely okay with the shrines here and really digging them. Honestly very impressed with how tricky some of them have been already too.

So Ive been playing it with my wife. She has asked me to not continue the main story until we can game together. So we reached Kakariko, then I took a bit of a detour:

And yes, playing it on a projector is awesome, except when a storm comes.

Still rocking Traveler shirt and pants, and a bandanna of climbing... Running into a Guardian on the beach was shocking, running into a Lynel was horrifying. The elephant thing in the desert though. I was just upset I couldnt get to it before it oneshotted me.

I don't know anything about potions, not that I have a bottle to put them in anyway if that's required like in the past. Sounds like a temporary bandaid either as it's not a true level up is it? It does seem ridiculous that you can still get wiped out even with more hearts because of some canned strategy to jump or slash this way and not that way to survive. That feels pretty contrived and forced if that's the case as the older 3D (and 2D) games didn't do that. You found levels of armor, you found/earned more hearts, you kicked ass, but then again this isn't normal Zelda by any means. Don't get me wrong I don't hate it, but they way too far wimped out Link against even the wimpiest of enemies on two feet here.


I do like that idea of just walking the map to see what is around. I think those 2 spots that were missed in that comment earlier, I know there is one in a forest that actually is part of the Lost Woods, and as we know from Zelda stuff, there lies the master sword somewhere in there. I got curious where it was as far as progression goes in the story and you can get to it anytime you want to venture that way, but only after you have I think I read 13 hearts you can pull it. I guess it does some life depleting sword in the stone antics or whatever for added drama so you can't get it too soon.
