I do have to admit though, with FoMT I rely heavily on the faq for schedules. It's hard as heck to keep up with those girls(especially since I have a thing with potporri which unless I'm mistaken is one of the harder ones to impress....but she's just so.......kawaii. So for me it's her or the wine girl when I get around to playing. I only randomly discovered the game near the tailend of gamestop carrying gba...)

Thank God you included this so I didn't have to launch into a "hey I thought this was a retro gaming forum!" speech.ExedExes wrote: even Game & Watch!
I've been playing Mario Bros. - alternating between the NES and Game & Watch variants. Good times.
I love Nintendo handhelds in general.
Re: Nintendo Handheld Gaming Thread (Game Boy to DS)
I realized this weekend that this thread really is one of those "How is your [Nintendo Portable] gaming going" threads that seem to be a thing here. I wasn't expecting it to be nearly as popular as this. I'm happy to see all that you have been doing in this particular portable realm. I want to see more discussion and G&W is as retro as they come!BoneSnapDeez wrote:Thank God you included this so I didn't have to launch into a "hey I thought this was a retro gaming forum!" speech.

I haven't crept THAT far into modern territory yet. If you want to be technical, the DS is the newest thing I got. I'll always lean towards the portable stuff. I've realized in the past few years how much more I've really collected for the GBA and DS, in addition to more cartridges for my Retron 5. I missed a lot of good portable stuff back in the day!

I cleared the easy and I think a row or two of Mario picross. Did the last two rows of easy today mainly.

I LOVE picross. So rewarding having a completed picture to celebrate your work on this number grid puzzle (I like fanfare/rewards in my puzzle games).Tanooki wrote:I cleared the easy and I think a row or two of Mario picross. Did the last two rows of easy today mainly.
I've played though the 2 Mario Picross game boy games and a good way into the DS game, but have yet to try the SNES import or 3D Picross on DS.
Actually, the DS got a LOT of picross time, as I played Mario Picross 2 on a GB emulator.
Really I can get kind of obsessive playing the games, so I try to limit my exposure so I don't waste all my time on it.
If they made Picross books like they sell Sudoku books, I'd probably buy them.
...just another lost soul...
Re: Nintendo Handheld Gaming Thread (Game Boy to DS)
I cleared Picross DS some years ago, took awhile. I knew of the import GB/SFC titles, as of yet I still have avoided getting a SFC library again and watching prices on games I had before in part thanks to the frothing stupidity of paying too much in the US they're going up. :\
My wife here is the Rain Man of Picross, quite infuriating. She sits there and wonders why I can't figure them out without using the Nintendo 'hint' system and mocks that 15x15 is 'easy'. She doesn't use the math formula behind them, she just claims she knocks out the lines (full/empty) and can just see what it is killing those harder 25x25 types on I think DS had and the tablet knockoffs do within minutes. Sucks my will to play the damn things much as I usually will slip up once or twice (which Nintendo takes off, -2, -4, -8 -8... each time for. Usually I drop 10 minutes I reset the game as it's pointless.
Also they do make picross books man, you're just not thinking how to find them. Picross isn't a thing, it's a Nintendo title bastardizing the words PICture and CROSSword into one. They're called nonograms and you can find them in print, website stuff you can print yourself, or a crap ton of free or free to start(pay for extra packs) Android/IOS apps.

Re: Nintendo Handheld Gaming Thread (Game Boy to DS)
In my attempts to make my handheld collection less of a collection, I played 2 more GBA games today. ATV Quad Power Racing and Mario vs. Donkey Kong. I put ATV in the underrated games thread only because it (barely) qualifies as one to me, and since I got MvDK2 for the the DS this past weekend I wanted to play the original. Its got a lot going for it, some say it's a spiritual sequel to DK 94. It even has a special GB Player mode so when you use that like I did, the colors are adjusted to look better on the big screen.

Re: Nintendo Handheld Gaming Thread (Game Boy to DS)
I was setup to dump off like 5 games (mostly the gb family+1nes) today at the book and music place for credit or trade value. But in the end I did nothing to lower my totals and in fact got stunned by what I found, something I lost years ago to unemployment chopping indirectly.
I ended up even trade getting 5 games back. Hard Driving GB, GBC games Marble Madness and Rush 2049, then GBA was Star-X and the stunner -- Japanese 2in1 pack of Kessakusen! Ganbare Goemon 1+2 (SFC versions of Goemon 1 and 2.) 2 is my favorite Goemon, I was done, ready, and good to leave seeing that.
It along with a very few select SFC games I still feel bad not owning anymore and to get it again, even this way pleases me. As a bonus Goemon1(Legend of the Mystical Ninja) no longer uses a password(eeprom saves) and the mini games of it and G2 are on an open menu to just play whenever which is cool. I have no idea(check after this) what that cart goes for online but they valued it at $15.
That reminds me they had for $30 (which is too high) Batman the Animated Series for GB which I never heard of it before somehow on the old Gameboy. Seems highly liked/rated online, I feel I may have to investigate that and maybe buy it. That old cartoon still is the best Batman animated show of the lot by far. Oh and the other games, Marble Madness is quite solid, thinking since they're so cheap it maybe fun to get a pile of old atari/midway GBC arcade ports Digital Eclipse did for fun. I remember owning Rampart and it was good on there.

Re: Nintendo Handheld Gaming Thread (Game Boy to DS)
I didn't realize they made a Batman the Animated Series game for the DS. I'll have to fire up the ED and check it out.
Batman the Animated Series was a fantastic cartoon up there with Justice League Unlimited, Superman Adventures, and Batman Beyond. Speaking of Batman cartoons Batman The Brave and the Bold was also great. It was very campy and very much had a silver age comics appeal to it. I own the complete series of all except Batman Beyond which I'll get someday.
