If we worried about sales, how could we make this video at all? And are you saying over 30+ years and 200 games that all of them are known to all Nintendo fans? I thought we were pretty clear about that in the video...dsheinem wrote:Metal Jesus wrote: I dunno, I see a bunch of games that sold over ~500,000 copies...how are those hidden gems? Some of these sold in excess of 5-10million copies

you expect me to watch the video?Metal Jesus wrote: I thought we were pretty clear about that in the video...
I was just comparing to games that you usually mention in your hidden gems stuff which, like the games in the hidden gems articles here at RB, tend to be those with low enough sales numbers as to venture towards obscurity. I think the non-Nintendo Mario games are fairly considered "hidden gems" but GB/GBA games that sold millions of copies or the flagship Mario title for the Gamecube hardly qualify (in my book). I mean, at least a couple of these received some kind of Greatest Hits style release...

Re: Mario Games - Hidden Gems (Video)
Finished watching! First off, I loved it. Even though I was fully aware of these titles, I at least know that I am in the minority. One game that wasn't mentioned that I really enjoy is the Gameboy game, "Donkey Kong." I know it is Donkey Kong in the title and not Mario, but the game itself is really magical and very akin to Mario Vs. Donkey Kong.
The game starts off with the normal arcade Donkey Kong stages, but then pans out into a Mario Vs. Donkey style game. It is definitely one of the most overlooked titles I have seen as everyone just assumes it is a gameboy port of the arcade game. Don't know if that would have been considered a donkey kong game or a mario game, but definitely one people should check out!
Great job guys and I am happy you gave some love to the CDi and Virtual Boy! Underdogs represent!

Yeah, I know, I just don't go on YouTube a lot. Seeing this thread in my recent posts will remind me though.Metal Jesus wrote:If you have a YouTube/Google account, just click the WATCH LATER button on videos. Likewise. Let's keep this at the top of the topic list so that I can watch it after work, people.Ziggy587 wrote:Just posting so I remember to watch the video later.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Not going to lie I've definitely heard of these but the thing is they're really not talked about to be honest so yeah they're all great gems to hear about for once

I think that is really what makes them hidden gems is that they aren't remembered. When you say, "Hey let's talk Mario!" how many people are like, "MARIO CLASH!?"darsparx wrote:Not going to lie I've definitely heard of these but the thing is they're really not talked about to be honest so yeah they're all great gems to hear about for once
I loved the video and thought they gave great nods to some of the lesser known Mario games. Sure they may have sold well, but that doesn't make them the spotlight of the Mario franchise.

Well that was fun.
I'm happy other people have played Fortune Street.
I used to hate Wrecking Crew, with a passion. But, I grew older, I tried it again, and it's great!

Wrecking Crew and Mario Paint come to mind. I would argue that Mario Paint is less popular than Mario Land 2. And no one talks about Wrecking Crew, no matter how hard Nintendo pushes it.Metal Jesus wrote:What games are we missing?

Re: Mario Games - Hidden Gems (Video)
That mario clash does look like fun but I don't want/need a virtual boy...I'm almost hoping and wishing that one gets a remake or something so I'd be more willing to play it(just looking at the videos makes my head hurt from all that red)BogusMeatFactory wrote:I think that is really what makes them hidden gems is that they aren't remembered.
