I made the same mistake, hash.

Here's my new score:

o.pwuaioc - 159,310 - Area 7 - NES

I think I may be able to beat this with no continues. Hopefully I'll do that soon and switch over to the arcade version.

Any word on exactly how similar the PCE port is/should I make a separate score table for it? I know the NES and PCE versions are way different, but I've never played the actual arcade game.

From what I've seen so far, PCE is pretty spot on to the arcade. Only difference so far is an extra hit (3 instead of 2).

I think the extra hit alone warrants a third table. I thought there were other minor differences as well.

That's a pretty major difference, so I think an extra table will be in order.

noiseredux - 87,770 - Area 7 - NES

wasn't sure what I was gonna think of this one, but it's actually pretty damn fun. I'm not usually a fan of the Xevious "shoot stuff on the ground" thing, but this game works. And the bosses are pretty damn cool -- especially given I'm playing the NES port. (Emulating on DC btw).

Just tried out the Amiga version 8)

Looks pretty nice, plus you start out with three heads and five lives, so it's not too tough to start with. On the downside, your movement seems restricted; you can't seem to move as far down the screen as you can in the other versions, which makes for some awkward sections in dodging stuff and hitting things with your ground shot. Plus, the status bar at the bottom has a big picture of a dragon that actually obscures the lower right part of the screen :?

Also, not sure if it's a quirk of the original game or just the emulated version, but once you run out of lives, the game auto-continues - there's no game over or continue screen, you just go back to the previous checkpoint with 5 more lives and you retain the score you had. So you can just keep going till you finish the game or get stuck at a particular checkpoint and give up...

(Next up: C64 version!)

C64 version: Looks like ass, doesn't play too well either. Enemy bullets are fast and hard to see, plus collision detection seems iffy. It's more of a vertizontal, and since your dragon is about half the length of the screen, you have very little time to react to stuff coming from the top. You can pretty much only hit stuff with your ground shot if it's in the top half of the screen too. Basically, it turns the game into more of a memorizer...

Spectrum version: haven't played it, but it definitely looks a lot better. They had the good sense to put the status bar on the side, so you get the proper vertical-alignment and, unlike the C64 version, everything actually looks like the arcade game (albeit without the colour, obviously).
