Just came across this new hack on RHDN...

http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/1983/

It's the same old Akumajo Densetsu (Castlevania 3) translation that we already had, but it changes the names back to the American versions. IE: Game is called "Calstevania 3 Dracula's Curse" and Trevor Belmont instead of Ralph Belmondo.

CV3 is one of my favorites, and I alternate playing the actual Akumajo Densetsu cart and the translation on my PowerPak. I'd love to play this version, I think the title screen looks better. Also, yeah, Trevor instead of Ralph.

Wanted to share some pics of the newest addition to my 'Vania collection...

As the casing reads - it's Vs. Castlevania!

However, this one is an unused copy of the daughterboard, complete with marquee, "how-to-play" card, and the cabinet graphics.

I haven't yet been able to find a cabinet to use to run this, let alone research the tools and boards I'll need.

I'm assuming I'll need another Vs. Cab to use it's motherboard to run the CV daughter. But then again, I'm more of a console gamer and completely ignorant when it comes to arcade cabs.

Any suggestions..?

For any readers that might be unfamiliar with the Vs. version of this game, (or the Vs. series of NES games in general:)

In the late 1980's, Nintendo's home console was the system to beat. As the arcade scene was waning a bit - Nintendo released competitive, two-player head-to-head versions of many of it's more popular games in the form of dual-screen arcade cabinets. Some games utilized this hardware to simultaneously compete for higher scored, while other Vs. games merely allowed a second player to alternate turns with Player One and play the same game that was more often than not already sitting in the player's stack of carts at home. If there was anything separating the arcade's Vs. iteration of a game....uhh, versus.. it's home console copy - it was the retooling of the games difficulty level.

If you've beaten an NES game more times than you care to admit, and there exists a Vs. copy of the game - then you owe it to yourself to try it's soul-crushingly harder cousin.

Jealous on the Vs score. I don't know too much about the Vs hardware personally, I *think* they run on a Vs motherboard kinda like an MVS or ST-V board might. If that's true, you need to lay your hands on that motherboard and either a JAMMA cabinet or a supergun (supergun will likely be cheaper).

One of our more arcade-savvy members might be able to shed some more light, if not I suggest KLOV or Nintendo-Age.

This looks gooooood.

In other news, I just got the first Castlevania (albeit on GBA, not NES). I've never come close to beating this game though I may attempt it during the MONTH OF HORROR.

While the original NES version is the version I played 1st (1st Castlevania game for me even), the GBA version is the one that I actually beat (and that's the version I own).

Having your level saved really helps... without cheapening the experience with save states.
Make sure to use holy water on Death  .

Also, Minibosses rock!

(although, I prefer their older version of Vampre Killer, which I can't find anymore)
