Night of the Creeps rules. I was Dekker had done more horror considering this, Monster Squad and House (writer). Also, I personally think it's safe to assume that Night of the Creeps and Slugs are the two biggest influences on James Gunn's excellent Slither.

Cracked open my $3 copy of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I had never actually seen it before. I can see how it influenced later movies, but I guess I'm too jaded or seasoned at this point and just thought it was ok. Seeing it so many years after the fact makes it seem laughable that it actually scared or upset anyone. Marilyn was a great screamer though. It was a bit odd having Dan Fielding giving the opening narration.

I thought TCM was solid horror film, but my wife and I now laugh about the fact that - despite its title - only one person is actually killed with a chainsaw. If I recall correctly, the rest are actually slain with a mallet...I guess the title "Texas Mallet Massacre" just doesn't sound as cool. (Also, the part where the guy is killed with the chainsaw - if watched out of context - is hilarious.)

Anyway, my wife and I watched "The Bad Seed" last night.

We were only going to watch half of it, but it was so good we stayed up entirely too late watching it through to the end. I highly recommend it.

I'm not saying TCM was bad by any means. My brain has a very strong sense of what's real so movies don't usually 'get' to me. I can enjoy them, but that's just my loss that they don't often engross me. I totally understand TCM's place and influence on other horror movies, but it is kind of a victim of its own success in that respect. Admittedly I watch the occasional horror film, but they're not a genre I seek out often.

It is like someone who only started playing FPS in 2000 going back to play Doom. Maybe they'd appreciate its genre defining status or maybe it would simply seem 'old'. Thankfully I played Doom back in the day so I enjoy and appreciate it immensely. For another example I appreciate Jimi Hendrix's innovation with guitar distortion and influence on rock music but I don't actually care to listen to his music. *zips up flame suit*

One of my favorite Argento films, it's a fantastic giallo with a great soundtrack and some gorgeous murder scenes (Seriously, how can he manage to make horrible deaths visually appealing?).

I'm curious, where did the Resident Evil movies go wrong...it could have made a great thriller instead they made it what felt like a traditional action, at least from what I remember. Michelle Rodriguez didn't look as hot as she does now..lol

I've never seen them, but from what I can tell they're not much like the games. Right? It's kind of a missed opportunity. The first game especially is an homage to campy 80's b-horror. So why wouldn't you make the movies just as campy?

The Resident Evil movies were damn near nothing like the games and the movies tried hard as hell to make the star (Alice) out to be a zombie-fighting superhero.

They were ok action movies to just lose yourself in and enjoy the ride for what it was, but it felt like the creator honestly knew next to nothing about the games and just tried sticking random characters/zombies he liked in nonsensically. I didn't get the B-horror vibe that was done so nicely in RE1 from the movies at all.

Truth be told, I thought the first Resident Evil film was pretty decent all around and one of the better video game movies I've seen. Of course, I haven't actually seen it since sometime before the sequel came out in theaters, so I might change my mind if I were to rewatch it.

The sequels were all pretty terrible though.

^Yeah, I liked the first actually. It wasn't fantastic, but for a video game movie I thought it was pretty good. It took liberties, and had stupid moments but was still fun. I didn't think it got the B-horror vibe right, but it got the evil bio-engineering corporation vibe right if that makes sense. It was the sequels that were ridiculous.
