IDK. There's no reason to be ashamed of being diabetic, but there's reason to be ashamed of being a heroin addict. So I guess if you're overweight, through no fault of your own, you shouldn't have to be ashamed. But if you're overweight and it's only your own fault, why shouldn't you be ashamed of that?

I'm not for "fat acceptance", but I don't at all like fat hate either. Mostly because of the people in my life who can't lose weight for legitimate reasons. Main one being my mom, seeing as she made good progress until her knees went out. One's had a partial replacement, and one has had quite a bit of work and is headed for a full replacement. Not too big of a deal for exercise normally, but due to other issues in her legs, a lot of muscle mass and connective tissue around her knees had to be clipped and cleaned in order for the replacements to go in well...

That said, I think a large part of people's weight problems come down to not trying enough options. During the last school year I lost 50-60 pounds or so, from 210 to about 155 or so. (I have lots of weight fluctuations) But I really didn't do anything. I started eating less because of time issues, stress, and lack of money. It stuck, my stomach shrunk, and I lost weight. When I was younger, I had tried dieting, exercise, etc. Nada. When I was still attempting to make it in sports, no amount of running helped. I would run my ass off, all kinds of aerobic workouts. I didn't lose weight. But weight exercises? Those made a real difference.

People don't think about their bodies enough. They don't try enough things. I never would have thought eating less is enough. Apparently, that's all it takes for me. Part of it, methinks, was that I quit growing and don't have much of an appetite because of that.

It's selfish. One can also argue that it is selfish to want one's company so much that you try to change their lifestyle.

Is it selfish for me to want my fat friends to lose weight so they have a longer life so I can still have them as friends? To a point, sure. But I do want them to lose weight for their own health, and for their family as well.

Although I said "fat friends" and "obese friends" I should be using the term "unhealthy". I'm only using those terms as emphasis as I don't think of them as fat, but very unhealthy. I have body dysmorphic disorder, as I'm 6'1, 150 lbs, have a 28 inch waist, can count my ribs by looking at them, but still think I'm more than chubby.

So when people tell me I don't eat enough (which I don't) and tell them that I'm trying to lose weight it is a lose lose situation. On one hand I don't like being reminded that I need to eat more, and on the other I feel like I'm telling my friends "I don't want to be fat like you".

But if I do eat a lot, I throw it up. Not intentionally, I simply can't stomach a lot of food.

So there's my therapy session for the day. ;)

If I could transfer the weight on my face to my butt, I'd be a happier dude.

City Carriers have LLVs and other company vehicles, but Rural Carriers have to provide their own vehicles and do their own maintenance. They pay us an extra $0.50 per mile for gas and maintenance, but that doesn't really go to far since you need extra insurance for a postal vehicle. Most of the guys around here just use Jeep Cherokees or other vehicles that don't have a console/separate in the middle they drive from the center using their left foot & left hand which is just insane in my book. Driving from the center like that also brings about a lot of back problems so I searched for a RHD after my first day. Ended up having to drive from Southern Ohio up a little ways past Pittsburgh to get it though. Still can't believe that the USPS doesn't have their own importer or at least some form of assistance for getting a RHD vehicle it's probably one of the larger reasons they have retention problems :P. At least if I ever have to sell it there are plenty of rural carriers that would jump on it since imported cars are pretty scarce around here.

Lots of protein, lettuce with whatever veggies in the salad is always good, and you're not gonna carb crash from it. But when the salad fills a huge bowl, a bowl that requires to hands to carry, and there's 2 pieces of chicken breast, more than 1 hard boiled egg (in other words: a portion for two people) and then smothered in salad dressing... You're not doing yourself any favors! "I don't know why I'm not losing any weight! I've been eating good, I only have a salad for lunch!" It's like Homer Simpson with his rice cake.

It is all about caloric intake, carbs, and sodium. Most calories from a salad is the dressing. Having 2 grilled chicken breasts instead of 1 isnt that much of a calorie increase. Using ranch instead of a vinegarette would be the biggest calorie increase. Diet coke in of itself, minus any potential harmful effects from artificial sweeteners would actually not make you gain weight. It does have sodium though, and there are theories that no cal artificially sweet drinks cause people to crave calories more.

Because being overweight isn't the same thing as heroin abuse, other than both occur due to personal choices. And equating the two is laughable.

Except religious people are basing their fears on imperceptible matters of imagination. Whereas someone getting upset over a friend becoming obese is a fear based on tangible evidence (i.e. increased fat) and scientifically proven outcome (i.e. shorter lifespan).

Popo, I side with Ex that "Thou soul be damned" is a lot different than "Thou arteries will be clogged".

Not dismissing your point, but I'm not trying to give my friends eternal salvation, rather trying to get them to play a round of putt putt without passing out.

I like being active. To me that's relaxing. Even if it is bowling, to me it beats sitting on the couch and dare I say it...playing video games.

Even going to a theater I see it as "doing something". A good chunk of my friends like to just watch tv in their house and leaving their house almost frightens them. That's why they are out of shape.

Samsonlonghair and his gal met me, and I'm pretty sure he'd say that I'm "go, go, go..". I abstain from the mundane. All some of my friends need to do is simply DO STUFF. I'll totally admit to not getting "being lazy" as relaxation.

Having a bowl of Cookie Crisp while playing a game on Saturday morning is awesome, but spending all day playing a game and plopped on a couch? No thanks.

To each their own.
