Your gauges acting goofy and abs light coming on remind me of a bad alternator from past experiences. My gauges would all go from 0 to max then back to 0 and dead. But your other symptoms don't.

Well I've been noticing weird things ever since I got it. I remember on the long drive back after getting it that the dashboard back lighting was flickering whenever I had it set to full brightness. Probably a short or loose wire somewhere which is going to be a bitch to find.

The ignition might also be having problems since the key doesn't lock in and can be taken out while the vehicle is running.

:D Going up to the road on Saturday. Gonna check out the thrift stores and meet with someone about selling a few things I posted on Craigslist (BlazBlue 1 for the 360 and Ultimate Shooter Collection for the Wii, for $5 each). The buyer's meeting me at the Park Service rest stop south of Whalebone Junction (the buyer's from Wanchese).

:D Finally started watching "The State" on Hulu.

Well now. If your ignition assembly is starting to fail (having either an intermittent short or open), that would explain a lot of those symptoms as well. Maybe you'll only end up needing to replace that and not your ECU. If you don't get any codes that would be the next thing I'd look into. I'm sure you already checked all your fuses by now.

Haven't gotten a chance to yet it's been raining pretty heavily all day and now it's dark. Will go through them in the morning. I'll have to pull the passenger seat out so I can get to the fuses for the instrument panel since they are in an awkward place :P.

When you start having multiple electronic issues simultaneously its usually either the ECU is going haywire (AKA the car's "computer"), or the ignition switch is flaking out. Occasionally it's because a rat has been making a nest out of your car's wiring harness. That's really rare though and typically burns the car to the ground so it's likely not that.

The alternator could cause weird electrical issues if it's spitting out random voltages across the different buses. But that normally starts blowing fuses left and right. If you check your fuse box and don't see any blown fuses, I doubt it's the alternator. From what you've said, I doubt this is a fuse or relay related issue, but it doesn't hurt to check.

Worst case scenario you could drop the jeep off at a mechanic and rent a car for work while it's being repaired. Although your savings are going to go bye bye with that option. Better than losing your nice job though.

The charge system is easy to verify, a simple DC voltmeter read. 12 volts engine off and around 14 volts engine running indicating charging. The amps really have to kick up to cause issues on the gauges.

I am leaning towards the main instrument panel harness which since there are multiple gauges and now the ignition doing the cutouts. Check anywhere there is a "canon" plug (maybe some moisture from the rain), especially if any going thru the firewall.

Most auto stores will check your alternator for you. Don't know if they can check a starter, though.

I don't think I could pull my 63 mile mail route off in the 6-7 hours I have left after sorting the packages, mags, and local mail in the morning in anything other then my Right Hand Drive Jeep :P.

As much as I like the job I don't know how much longer I will be able to stick with it. The last few weeks I haven't been given any fill in jobs so my next pay check will have a whole 16 hours on it. Would be 20 if it were the actual hours I worked, but since my "training" period is over it's the routes evaluated time which is 8 a day :P.

They hired 2 extra subs that just came in last week as well so work above and beyond my guaranteed 1 day a week is going to be really scarce now and I have one of the worst routes for a sub since the lady never takes off and when she does she usually comes back in and takes my Saturday time to make up for it  . Plus once every 3-4 weeks she works over time and I get knocked to the 3 hour auxiliary route which really screws me over. Gotta love the system.
