I was talking about the Crystal Bearers one Ex showed. I had no idea Rings of Fate was released on the Wii as well.
I haven't played enough of Crystal Bearers to have a well informed opinion yet, but it has a lot of neat features and fun moments near the beginning. It's really not much like the other CC games at all as far as I can tell.

Rings of Fate was not released on Wii - only on the DS.
But the sequel to that game, named Echoes of Time, was available on both Wii and DS. Apparently the Wii version wasn't a good way to play though. Since the games were basically the same, in the Wii version your TV screen was broken into two parts to emulate the double screens on DS. That kind of port would have worked with Wii U... kind of silly on Wii though.

It's totally different, it just takes place in the same universe. The Crystal Bearers is a super fun game once you accept that it's doing its own thing, and you have to leave all your series preconceptions at the door. I had a ton of fun with it, and it's one of the best looking Wii games ever made. I think only Xenoblade and Blue World are in the same league graphically. Honestly the game is sorely underrated, but then again so are a lot of other Wii gems.Czernobog wrote:It's really not much like the other CC games at all as far as I can tell.

RELEASING AUGUST 4TH
Official site: http://www.atlus.com/untold2/
Trailer:
Lots of new features including a whole new stratum called Ginnungagap and a robust story mode with voice acting galore.
Reviewers are loving it:

From Hardcore Gamer:
Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight continues the trend of quality dungeon-crawling conventions. The Story Mode is a cut above Millennium Girl‘s, with characters and a story that are far more developed, the combat and customization remains engrossing and deep, and the production values are impressive. This is a DRPG that can be played and enjoyed by veterans, thanks to Classic Mode, or complete genre newcomers thanks to the more narrative-heavy Story Mode where the level of challenge is far more accessible. Those looking for a new 3DS game to sink at least 100 hours into should buy The Fafnir Knight; it’s the definitive Etrian Odyssey game.
I'll be buying this one come August. You should too! Unless you don't care about supporting quality 3DS games.

How is that Etrian Odyssey Untold game? I chose SMT4 over it and ended up getting lost and bored of the grinding in that one about 1/2 into it and put it up for sale. I almost wish I had gone with EOU1 but I couldn't get a good enough feel for it just only seeing combat fights on videos online. SMT4 has this bogus overworld map and walking map setup and I ended up going in circles and got tired of it. I didn't mind the battle system too much and the merging of creatures was interesting as well.

The original Untold is a good game. If you play it on standard difficulty it's a fair challenge and is consistently rewarding. If you play it on Expert like I did, especially on story mode, it is a nightmarish chore to finish. It took me 115 hours to beat it like that. I don't plan to play Untold 2 on Expert that's for sure.Tanooki wrote:How is that Etrian Odyssey Untold game?

What are we considering "modern" when it comes to Final Fantasy? I'm honestly not a huge fan of the CC games. Most of them are pretty generic action-RPGs. And the GC one had the bucket. Not that it was a bad game, but it didn't click with me, either.
Yeah, and Crystal Bearers is a completely different animal entirely. I need to get around to putting some time into that one.

Etrian Odysee is a series I find super intimidating - although I'm enjoying Persona Q which is a bit of a light version with characters more familiar to me. That said 2 Untold is looking like the game I'll dive in to to really give the series a go. I like the art - if Mystery Dungeon is anything to go by - and one of the things that has kept me away from the other games is the lack of strong narrative. So it's preordered and I eagerly await its arrival.
