FF X.
Man, I just can't get over how great this battle system is. It's probably my favorite system in any of the Final Fantasy's I've played.
What RPG are you playing right now?

Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
I'm guessing SRPGs still count for this thread. I'm currently working through Jeanne d'Arc. It's pretty fun, the only real issue I have with it so far is the turn limit, which basically forces you to play offensively. Yesterday I lost a mission because of the turn limit with the boss needing literally one hit from any of my 4 remaining characters. More annoyingly, two of said characters missed 80%+ attacks on my last turn. I just dont think forced turn counts gel well in a game that is fairly RNG dependant.
Overall though, I'm enjoying it a lot. I'm hoping the story gets a little more depth than it's shown so far - the characters are pretty 2 dimensional, particularly the English, who are so generically evil it's funny.

Recently picked up where I left off with SMT3: Nocturne, and like last time got slaughtered by Matador.

Yeah, Matador is a giant cockblock. Figuring out what you need to do to beat him will gear your brain up for figuring out how to beat all the other bastardly enemies.REPO Man wrote:Recently picked up where I left off with SMT3: Nocturne, and like last time got slaughtered by Matador.

Hmm...I'm at that point where I'm not sure which RPG to play next. I have several choices, but there is a good bit of "bottom of the barrel" you might say, as I don't really feel like jumping into another big name so soon after Secret of Mana. So which of these do you guys suggest I try out?
7th Saga
Arcana
Drakkhen
Eye of the Beholder
Lagoon
Robotrek
Whichever one I play through, I'll likely follow with either Breath of Fire, Live A Live, or Secret of Evermore for a quality game, so I'm not opposed to something considered terrible.

Arcana.
It is a very different from other 16-bit RPGs, and you should be able get through it fairly quickly. At the time of its release, it was one of my very favorite RPGs.

There's a soft spot in my heart for Robotrek, but looking back it isn't as impressive as some of the others on that list.
I'm now getting my Etrian Odyssey IV on. I'm actually having more trouble with random encounters at this point than I normally do, which I take as a good sign.

This pretty much your standard JRPG fair, or what?MrPopo wrote:There's a soft spot in my heart for Robotrek, but looking back it isn't as impressive as some of the others on that list.

Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

It's a first person dungeon crawler with doing your own map on the bottom screen and a Dragon Quest-esque combat. Good character customization using skill trees, so you can have two characters of the same class who play pretty differently. The story is on the light side, and your characters are all blank slates. Very anime stylings in the character art but the monster art is more western. So sort of a fusion of JRPG and early CRPG.Stark wrote:This pretty much your standard JRPG fair, or what?MrPopo wrote:There's a soft spot in my heart for Robotrek, but looking back it isn't as impressive as some of the others on that list.

Ack,
I recommend The 7th Saga. It's more difficult that most 16-bit JRPGs, but it has an atmosphere that's unmatched. It's completely different from every other RPG on the SNES (well, except for the sequel).
