Danganronpa is literally the greatest game ever. Stick with it, otherwise I'll beat you with a stick. Seriously though, it's one of the best games I've played in the last few years. The story and characters are awesome. Battle Royale meets Ace Attorney meets I don't know what, but it's freaking awesome!
I'm currently playing through Danganronpa 2 myself. It's not quite as good as the first, but still really good.

I beat the first trial of Danganronpa 1 on Vita last year, and put it away after that. The game has a lot of spunk, sure. But it's such a mish mash of disparate gameplay that it felt like a mess. I'm not saying it's a bad game, but it didn't immediately click for me. The writing is so-so, but you gotta love the crazy bears. Maybe it gets better after the first trial, I'll try it again sometime when I'm in the mood for pure insanity.

Mate, Trigger Happy Havoc just gets better and better... but maybe it's not for you? It instantly grabbed me and I loved the characters and writing.

I wouldn't say I'm hooked yet, but I'm getting there. Question for those who've played:
Are deaths of characters preventable? Or what agency do you have?
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

I think I just wasn't in the right mood for it. Danganronpa lost me at the timed rhythm minigame during the trial part. It just felt totally out of left field and unnecessary, plus I suck at rhythm games.
I totally understand why people love Trigger Happy Havoc though, and I'm not saying it's a bad game. It's just a game that's far more concerned with being wacky and stylish, than it is being consistent and believable. I do appreciate the game's dark sense of humor though.
I'll give it another shot someday, maybe I'll have a change of heart.

No, the game is fairly linear in terms of its story and the direction it takes. If I remember correctly though, towards the end of thr game, you are given a big choice to make. Your choice leads to one of two possible endings and one is considered the "good" ending, the other is considered "bad".
