I'm glad you remembered it was Kassandra with a K.
Re: The Month of Horror PART IV: dsheinem vs. noiseredux
Watched Videodrome and Black Christmas tonight with some friends. Both were new to me, both delivered exactly how I'd have hoped...mostly. I guess for a long time I had secretly thought/hoped that Black Christmas was a Blaxploitation/horror crossover, so that it turned out to be a Canadian-created college-based film full of white kids was a bit of a let down
Also, would it be blasphemous to suggest I like eXistenZ more than Videodrome?

Re: The Month of Horror PART IV: dsheinem vs. noiseredux
I played demos for a few of the games suggested to me. I'll list my experiences with them in the order I played them.
Condemned: Criminal Origins - I played the demo back when this game first came out and didn't like it. I don't remember why I didn't like it. Maybe I was just stupid. This time, I had a more enjoyable experience. I wasn't scared and I called bullshit on a couple bits, but this game did have a bit of a creep factor to it. I think I might get this one closer to Halloween when (hopefully) Steam has a sale on it.

Penumbra: Black Plague - This one kinda frustrated me at first due to the solutions to the obstacles eluding me. Eventually, it grew on me and I had a good time. This may not necessarily be a "scare", avoiding that damn creature had my heart pounding. I was running like a damn bitch when it said "You're dead!" I'm definitely getting the Penumbra collection, I'm not going to wait for a sale.
Penumbra: Overture - This had the same atmosphere as its sequel, so this wasn't a case of the sequel being the good one. I noticed a bit of a coldness theme with these two games. This one has you exploring northern Greenland and the sequel has you wake up in some freezing hell hole. I've been leaving the windows open and letting the cold air in to help enhance the mood. I hope this becomes a recurring theme and not just some random thing I noticed. I'm kinda glad that I played the Black Plague demo prior to this one because I think that if I'd played this one first, I would've been turned off. You play long enough to get a feel of the atmosphere... then you get killed by a dog. I thought I fucked up at first and tried to kill the dog the second time. After failing again I went to YouTube to see if it was possible to kill the dog. Apparently not. What a load of shit.
I also tried out Cry of Fear. I'm not going to talk about it in this post because I feel like this is already too long. I will say that it did piss me off.
Lastly, I heard that Silent Hill 2 is where the series got good. I'm guessing Konami knew this considering that the HD Collection has 2 & 3, with the first title no where to be found. Should I skip straight to Silent Hill 2 or is the first one worth playing too?

I'm the only one who thinks of silent hill (the original) when someone mentions the series? I only played 1 & 2 so far and i must say i think 1 has stuck with me the most.

April Fools Day

My wife and I both had memories of staring at this cool cover on the VHS versions of this movie back when we were kids and our parents wouldn't let us watch this kind of thing. We decided to watch it this year for the first time and it was quite the horror treat. We both had a great time with this one. It's got a lot of Slasher movie clichés, but with a few original ideas that made it better than what we had expected (not that we were expecting much).

Re: The Month of Horror PART IV: dsheinem vs. noiseredux
Just watched World War Z. Ok zombie movie, not amazing but not horrible. Worth buying on sale, used from a pawn shop to add to the zombie movie collection. Which is why I think I should focus on zombie only horror films. Now I don't know which ones I own, i'm only sure on I am Legend because I just picked it up at a yard sale lol. So can you guys make a top ten zombie movie list for me? 1 being best, 10 being the "worst".
My top ten would be:
10. World War Z
9. 28 Weeks later
8. Zombieland - liked it but it was to "funny" to be higher
7. I am Legend
6. Resident Evil
5. 28 Days later
4. Day of the dead (original)
3. Dawn of the dead (original)
2. Night of the Living Dead (original)
1. Dawn of the dead (2004) or Land of the dead
Obviously I like the classic ones, but I also like new stuff as well. I don't care much for B movies or cheesy movies. I want it to be worth my time to watch it lol. Oh and I count "plague" movies as zombie movies so like, Carriers or Quarantine (though I don't like Quarantine very much).

Yes. And I'm one of those dudes that likes eXistenZ more than seems normal. But Videodrome is way up there for me. Then again, let's be real. Cronenberg has done a lot of really great films. You could name a dozen of them as "your favorite" without anyone looking at you funny.dsheinem wrote: Also, would it be blasphemous to suggest I like eXistenZ more than Videodrome?
Yeah this is a good one. There was a slew of great slashers coming out of Canada at that time (My Bloody Valentine, Happy Birthday To Me, etc).J T wrote:April Fools Day

I recommend the 1990 version of Night of the living dead, i love that movie, also return of the living dead it has a really disgusting looking zombie that looks amazing after all these years. I would totally put zombieland over resident evil though...GirlGamer55 wrote:Just watched World War Z. Ok zombie movie, not amazing but not horrible. FYI...Black Sunday not a collaboration between Tyler Perry and Wes Craven...I am telling you now so you won't be disappointed later.dsheinem wrote:I guess for a long time I had secretly thought/hoped that Black Christmas was a Blaxploitation/horror crossover, so that it turned out to be a Canadian-created college-based film full of white kids was a bit of a let down.

Night before last, my wife and I watched:

Corridors of Blood (1958). Does it feature Boris Karloff as a 19th-century surgeon obsessed with developing anesthetic gases? Yes! Does it feature gruesome amputation scenes? Yes! Does it feature inky black-and-white photgraphy? You betcha! Does it feature the awesome tagline "Pain and the knife cannot be seperated"? Yes! Does it feature a young Christopher Lee as a scarred serial murderer named Resurrection Joe? Oh yeah! Is is a great horror film? Well... Is it a horror film at all? It was marketed that way....so...I guess... Despite its promise, Corridors of Blood plays out less like a horror film and more like a historically inaccurate addiction drama. I was deeply disappointed, and I do not recommend this film to anyone.

prfsnl_gmr's 2013 List of TERROR!
1. The Frighteners (1996)
2. Kill, Baby...Kill! (1966)
3. Salem's Lot (1979)
4. Blood Thirst (1965)
5. The Hunger (1983)
6. Jigoku (1960)
7. Full Circle (a/k/a The Haunting of Julia) (1977)
8. Corridors of Blood (1958)

Then you heard wrong. There was not a scarier horror game on a console before Silent Hill 2. Even though Silent Hill 2 has a better plot and much better graphics, I find the original much scarier.GSZX1337 wrote: Lastly, I heard that Silent Hill 2 is where the series got good.
