I've already got a powerful PC, but it's not feasible for me to move my PC to my living room. For whatever reason, I also tend to enjoy the "console experience" more.
There's something to be said for just putting in a game and playing it. Any time I play a PC game I usually spend an equal amount of time "tweaking" it to get the gameplay experience optimal. That may be my own fault, but I can't help it

I'm referring to the cost of several $60 games added to the cost of the console. Add taxes to that, and it's easily 600.
Does that mean that barring the purchase of a PS4 you can't buy any games? There are plenty of $60 games both out now and coming soon for current systems. There will also be plenty of sub-$60 games.
It's silly to buy "several $60 games" alongside your new console. That's the logic that backlogs are made of
Are you really expecting brand new launch titles to be less than $60? Like you just said, most newly released games now are $60. And are you really going to buy a brand new console and only buy one game for it? Obviously not. So, unless you expect to steal some of these new games, you'll be paying a premium for a while until the used market kicks in.
There will also be plenty of indie games at or close to launch for far less than $60. Many of them will likely be cross buy with the Vita. Not everyone only buys the latest 'blockbuster' games.

Pretty sure one of the biggest selling points of the new consoles was the hardware? If you're not buying it for the newest, best-looking games and graphics, then why buy it at all? To play indie games that don't take full advantage of the hardware? You can do that on PS3 and Arcade.

Because a lot of those games won't even come to PS3/360 as they'll be dead.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

Yes, I really expect to only buy one game for my new systems. Why do you need more? I've long since learned that buying multiple games at a time is stupid. One sits on the shelf and is inevitably available for cheaper by the time I get around to playing it.

Dead? You mean the company that still releases games for the 13 year old PS2? The PS3, at least, is going nowhere anytime soon. Time will tell on the 360.

Interesting. Guess I missed the announcements about Transistor and The Witness are coming to PS3.

Well, my friend, you're paying a hell of a lot for that single-game experience. Nearly $500 with the cost of the console and new game, plus taxes. I would rather buy close to twenty used, current gen games for that amount and then get all the new stuff cheaper in a year or two, but that's just me. Anyway, it's your money.
