Yep, the firmware update is only available on the new game cards and you have to use the rocket cable to perform the update. It actually has an update/charge switch on it to use after plugging it in to the power adapter. The cable is not microUSB but mini HDMI to USB.

Neo Geo X is officially discontinued. SnkP has terminated their contract with tommo. All upcoming releases and manufacturing of the unit have ceased. Wow. Just about 1 year.

Ouch. I never ended up buying any of those game cards released after the initial console launch... Probably never will. And this is less than a year since launch... Not even ten months. So, uh, future collectors item? Or is demand so low that no one will care?

Well if you look over at the Neo Geo forums, the X is hated so badly I doubt any serious collectors will care about it.

I read that Tommo has to pull all stock from retailers. Kinda sucks, I was somewhat interested in those arcade sticks.

Get it on Amazon before it's gone.
I was most interested in the "Mega Pack"...... but 80 dollars?! What do they think this is, a Neo Geo console?

The stick was in no way the same quality as an original AES stick.

The one neat thing about those Mega Pack's is that you can store your Neo Geo X portable in there. At least they thought of that.

I just keep my consoles in their original box usually... But yeah that is kinda neat.

I wondered about that, since it's one of the flimsiest pieces of crap I've ever seen passed off as a gaming peripheral (that wasn't meant to hold a Wiimote at least).
