Nintendo 3DS
Re: Nintendo 3DS
So is the backwards compatibility REALLY that bad on the 3DS? I'm very torn between either that or the DSi XL, seeing as there won't be any worthwhile 3DS games for quite awhile. I'm wondering if I should just go with the XL and hope by the time the good games come out for the 3DS, there will be an improved model.
In other words, were DS games just as enjoyable to play and look about the same on the 3DS for any of you who have both?

I've had zero issues with backwards compatibility on the 3DS. It all looks fine to me.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
I've never heard a single bad thing about the 3DS's ability to play original DS games. I think it's just as goo at playing DS games as PS2 is for PS1 games, or the Wii for GCN stuff.

The only bad thing about backward compatibility is that the games are slightly blurry. It's most noticeable on sprite based games like Pokemon. Other then that, it works perfectly fine.

I've had the chance to buy a 3DS for €110 when it just came out. Instead I chose to spend that money on a DS XL. Haven't regretted it for one moment. Wait until you get a better deal on a 3DS and buy an XL for now. There's so many good games on the DS for so cheap right now. That XL will keep you busy forever. And the XL screen just makes a HUGE difference. At least it did for me... ^^

Can't say I've ever had any problems running my DS games on my new 3DS.. How bad is the blurry-ness. (is that a word?)
Also, after checking out the eShop, I find it really unorganized in regards to looking for older DSi games I missed (I went from a launch model phat DS to a launch 3DS.) Finding that Castlevania-clone was a real chore for me.. Is the eShop on 3DS any different from how streamlined it shows up on the DSi models?

Yes, but its not a whole lot better on either to be honest. The e-shop has a decent search function at least.
It is marginally easier to find games on DSi outside of the search, but you have to know how much the game costs to start, then filter through every game, 2 to a page, tediously waiting for each to load until you reach it alphabetically in the list. It's kind of irritating.
The e-shop confuses me though. There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to the order of things on the main page of that download service. Theres just stuff all over the place.

Thanks; I've decided to go with the DSi XL seeing as I'm pretty anal about anti-aliasing type stuff... plus that extra-sized screen is very convincing.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
Thought I would post in the 3ds thread, since we seem to have forgoten about it when the 3ds price drop thread was made.
I just watched the nintendo pre-TGS conference and besides the typical stuff we knew was coming I saw a small video for a upcoming RPG callled Bravery Default: Flying Fairy. Anyone knew anything more about this title. From the video I am thinking it will be an Action-RPG but I didn't see but on small combat scene. I like the art design so-far.

That Super Mario 3D Land footage was great. Looks like SM3DL is going to be a lot like SM64, which is awesome.
