Only just found this website & forum :)

Been a retrogamer for about 3 years now, after I began collecting vintage sound cards. That started to go into external modules this year.

I've been mostly a DOS retrogamer until this morning when I bought an un-used originally packed Amiga CD32 that comes with 200 games on two discs, then also decided to slap Pinball Fantasies and Simon the Sorcerer onto it too. I'm hoping that arrives in a couple of days :)

The thing I love the most in DOS games is the music (visit my website for the 260+ tracks I've recorded) - this is the reason I'm collecting vintage sound cards and external modules, such as the SoundBlaster AWE32, Gravis Ultrasound MAX, Roland MT-32, CM-32L (external LAPC-I) and CM-300 (external SCC-1).

Still building my collection, which is mostly for the Amiga CD32 now :D

Strangest? Hm, not sure what you mean by that but if you mean "sticks out the most" then I'd say my Ensoniq Soundscape Elite (this big guy) is the strangest one I currently own.

It's a rather unique sound card - ever, that is. Unlike most sound cards that require drivers to run in the system RAM, this card has it's own CPU, RAM and even operating system. On boot up, the small program called "SSINIT" initialises the card (clearly audible as the DSP (the daughterboard attached to it) reverberates the "pop" from the MIDI synth chip as it starts up).

It's MIDI synth isn't bad, better than Creative's AWE32/64 though.

Ack, I can't even stand my AWE32. I much prefer the GUS MAX and Elite

Well, I'm not saying it was great -- it happened to be in an old PC I found in a dumpster :) I turned it in to a MP3 jukebox for a while before I moved.

Oh, hiya everybody. I'm new, I suppose, though been reading for a long time. I'm known as ThomasKarn over at the EmuA boards, one of the mods there, and I'm a nice guy. I dig obscure, pointless hardware and obscure, pointlessly violent FMV games, and have carried a torch for The Dig for some years now. I totally dig RPGs with metric assloads of character customization...mindless action games, too...my tastes are pretty wide-ranging. So, yeah. Hi.

Welcomes to the lot

you will find we all have very bizarre tastes in games and even hardware for a few of us. I know for myself I'm a nut about all kinds of strange things...

one in particular (pertaining to games that is) is the fact I primarily play non-violent games... or games with as little gore as possible. Blowing up robots doesn't offend me, but bloody gore games kinda just bore me.

I also collect any elecrtical... anything... I always find a need for some gidga-gadget off some odd device here and there. The wonders you can do by pulling parts from an old SegaCD, TV, portable CD player and a game gear to jam inside of some other console or computer.

Hola Amigos!!!

Post by Radiant Hero »

Hello this is Radiant Hero just wanting to say hello to everyone devoted to this site. Just to break ice I'll tell you a bit about myself. I am twenty eight years old and am an English/literature teacher in high school. I love three things: Guitars, Games and Well Written Prose. All of these subjects were purposefully capitalized to illustrate the level of dignity both subjects deserve, in my opinion of course.
Just by looking at my name you probably can figure out that I am a fan of the developing house named Treasure. I am interested in the history of games and am adamantly opposed to other peoples beliefs that gaming is nothing more than a mere form of entertainment, and therefore deemed as disposable media. Pop culture is just as profound as contrived forms of "profound" media. It only takes a serious mind to see the seriousness of everything despite socio-perceived notions of what is expendable media.

Welcome!

You may be disgusted by our poor grammar though. Heh...

I'm a huge fan of Treasure as well, and also was going to be a teacher (mathematics). I stopped though, after years of tutoring I realized my teaching technique is not suited for large classrooms and I'd probably end up just slaughtering children instead. At least as a tutor I get to choose my students; to an extent that is.
