I like short generations. I get bored easily and new hardware excites me. Plus, I hate money.

Do you wish generations lasted longer, or are you just a retro purist?
Both.

New hardware really excites me, and I, too, define myself by how many financially questionable decisions I make each year (taking the cake so far is taking $700 out of my savings while in college to buy an Xbox One, Dead Rising 3, and Killer Instinct).

Five years is enough time for developers to squeeze what they're gonna squeeze out of a console or handheld. After five years the tech is old and obsolete, not much left to do exciting with it from a technological perspective. It's more exciting both for developers and consumers to move on to new technology after those five years are up.

The Xbox 360 era went on wayyy too long. The 360 was released on November 22, 2005, and the Xbox One was released on November 22, 2013. Eight years was just too long and it had a detrimental effect on the games industry but that's a rant I'll save for another day.

I love the 3DS but its low resolution and spotty PPI bothers me. I mean even rinky dink smartphones you can buy for $20 nowadays have far better resolution and PPI. It's definitely time for that NX handheld to be released on that reason at least. In comparison the Vita's resolution and PPI still look really nice and I have no qualms with it. I think the Vita's good enough for one more year of loving, but after that let's move on Sony.

Spot on all around. I differ with you on the 3DS. I'm not arguing that it doesn't suffer from poor resolution, but I don't think that it's been a big detriment for most games. Games on both 3DS and Vita feel to me like PS3 games that have been "remastered" for PS4. Just like the PS4 versions definitely look and often play better, playing it on PS3 doesn't bother me at all. Games definitely look better on Vita, but it's never bothered me to play them on the lower resolution 3DS. Just my opinion on the systems, though; I adore them both.

I also think 2016 is the Vitas last year, it will leave a great legacy in my eyes. The WiiU is pretty much dead as I did want one sorta but now no longer there's like like 5-8 games I would like but can totally live without.

Back to the Vita it did last longer than anyone expected atleast.

I think it's been only the Japanese market that's kept the Vita alive. If it was left up to the USA market alone it would have been long dead already.

I don't think we will see another handheld from Sony immediately following the Vita so you guys who are ready to for it to be done keep that in mind. Sony may be done with the handheld market altogether. For that reason alone I say let it cling to life for as long as possible and let gamers have more than one choice of dedicated gaming handhelds.

This is absolutely true. The only thing the west offers up for Vita is ports of indie PC games.

I also sincerely doubt that we will see another Sony dedicated-gaming-handheld. If anything, Sony might revisit the Xperia concept.

I think people are too quick to write off the Wii U. The number of releases are pretty low since it has almost zero third party support, and Nintendo is about to reveal a successor (but that's completely in-line with their 5-6 year lifespan trend), but there are still a few REALLY promising games coming out this year. Pokken Tournament, Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem, Starfox Zero, the new Legend of Zelda (I can't imagine they'll delay it AGAIN), and Twilight Princess HD (I know it's just an HD port, but with the new dungeon, it counts as an exciting release for me).

Don't get me wrong, the Wii U is definitely ripe for a replacement in the not-too-distant future, but it's not irrelevant yet. It may be dying, but I don't think it's fair to say that it's dead. Then again, I've LOVED my Wii U since launch day, so I'm a little biased.

Wii U and Vita have a lot in common this way - many people think the two consoles have no good games (this is clearly wrong) and just write off the consoles because of that misconception.

Vita clearly has a larger library, with some very interesting games.
Wii U has a smaller library although includes (I'd argue) more "must play" titles.

Both are pretty awesome consoles in their own way, and I'd imagine that both will be fantastic for collectors a few years down the road.
