Unlikely any amount of "attack, attack, attack, heal, cast fire on the ice dragon, etc" will get one through this game. Really wish it would get the recognition and notoriety EarthBound does. :?

Yes, but Dragon Quarter doesn't exactly have a standard JRPG combat system. You can move around the battlefield and set traps -- it's more of a SRPG. My criticisms are only for JRPGs that use the standard Dragon Quest battle system which is still widely in use today. The JRPGs that attempt to do something new with their combat (Dragon Quarter, Final Fantasy XII, Radiant Historia, etc.) are awesome. If more JRPGs got rid of that archaic system I would play many more JRPGs.

It may have many strategic elements to the gameplay, but I don't think that really qualifies it as an SRPG. The traps only work as "traps" outside of battle, also. In battle, they function much like attack/restorative items in many other RPGs.

I do basically agree, that it's nice when RPGs implement slightly more dynamic gameplay elements, but I actually really love the Dragon Quest series. (For the most part.)

Outside of the obvious Mistwalker stuff... can you name some?

I'm half being sarcastic here and half curious. But I'm pretty sure the traditional turn based system isn't around much like it used to be. I'd completely love for more JRPG's to fall back on it again. I don't know if I'd count FFXIII, but Lost Odyssey is what I'm really thinking of.

Unless you're thinking of handhelds, then yeah I'm sure there's a lot there. But on consoles I'm thinking there's not much at all.

One more reason to dislike AlphaOmegaSin: he called BOF V a "traversty" and "a miserable little shit quirt"
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

PS2 and handhelds mostly. I haven't played any current gen console JRPGs.

Did he actually start out as a decent reviewer? Or was he always about the crazy rants?

He was never a reviewer to begin with, he mostly just makes videos where he either rants (to put it mildly) about or is super hyped about some recent gaming news story. Though he does have some collection&unboxing vids and stuff like that.
