Honestly, I dont have a Pc engine or a PCE Duo. So my favorite shmups System is my Sega Saturn, followed by Ps1 (able to Play japanese games).

Saturn: If your console is capable of playing imports you can choice of a great variety of shmups. My hidden gem is Metal Black
Ps1: Zanac X Zanac and I really like Gaiaseed

Favorite RPG character: Honeystly, I have not thought about this till now. I have no Special character in mind. But I played Radiata stories recently and the characters seem to be very charismatic.

Great answers! I have to agree with you on the Sega Saturn shmups library; it's simply incredible both in depth and breadth. Racketboy ran a really nice article on the subject a while back. I've always meant to explore the PCE shmups library more deeply! It has a really good reputation, but I've never delved into it. Too many games and not enough time!

For my part I really like the character of Vivi in Final Fantasy IX. While the game itself is not without issues (though I enjoy it all the same), I really appreciate how Vivi is sort of a character study in existentialism. In a genre filled with brooding amnesiac, world-saving teens, it's nice to see these sorts of oddball divergences inviting slightly deeper character analysis. :D

Welcome once again!

Hello everyone!

Been such a long time since I ventured into the world of forums. Set up my first website/forums with some friends called Game Groove...almost 17 years ago in high school.
Actually...I just Wayback Machined it! Here is what is left of the site https://web.archive.org/web/20010517011406/http://psgamegroove.cjb.net/

Those buttons you are missing on the left were prime early 2000s flash animated bubbles.

Honestly, I am getting back into it mainly because I started an apparel business based around gaming. Definitely hoping it will take off so I can start recollecting all the gems I had sold years ago.

Favourite Retro Games: River City Ransom \ Phantasy Star Online \ Final Fantasy III
Favourite Retro Console: Dreamcast

See you all around.

Greetings everyone!

I've finally decided to join after lurking for a couple of months, partly because this seems like a fun community and partly because I really like the idea of the Together Retro's. I haven't been retrogaming long, so I haven't played most of the classics but hopefully that will change over time. :)

I'm currently playing through the Metal Gear Solid franchise (currently playing 3), which is fun and over-the-top except for the couple of minute waits each time you're discovered. But I imagine Naked Snake more as a Johnny English type of spy. :D

I've been lurking on this forum for years, but I finally decided to make an account as my focus between retro and modern gaming started to shift more towards retro recently and I'd like to get some more info/discussion on retro gaming.

I think the best way to learn a game is by playing it, so this introduction should be good enough, you'll get a better idea of who I am by reading my posts over time than anything I can say about myself from the off.

Hello!

I was kind of looking for a place to discuss my thoughts on games I've been playing lately. I was aware of this site but never joined before. The community seems very cool. I like being part of a retro community because most gaming sites are all about discussing whatever the newest flavor of the week is. If you're into something retro or just something not widely known, you can't really get a discussion going. So that's what I find appealing about this forum.

I've recently been getting into PSVR with games like Astro Bot. I'm also enjoying a lot of indie, retro stuff lately. I play just about anything that catches my fancy, but retro style games like The Messenger or remaster/remakes of old stuff typically grabs my interest the most. I also generally like anything niche that does something different from the norm, and Japanese games as well. Basically, I don't usually play AAA, automatic Game of the Year contender type games, but I make exceptions for some of them. So I'm not like a total hipster LOL. I just like simple games and most modern games don't really fit that description. Surprisingly, I've found many PSVR games do kind of hearken back to simpler times in gaming with many of them being accessible, easy to enjoy and relatively short gaming experiences.

My favorite genre is probably platformers, particularly mascot style stuff like Sly Cooper, Conker, Sonic, etc. Beat 'em ups would be an extremely close second, with probably JRPGs coming in third. I rarely have time for JRPGs these days though, too big of a time sink.

Gaming is my main hobby these days. I use to watch movies, TV shows, wrestling, etc. Lately though, my TV collects dust and I generally watch very little outside of news, though I get much of my news through alternative sources like youtube and a few websites as there's too much propaganda on TV these days in my humble opinion. One of the reasons I don't watch much TV or movies lately is it feels like too much ideology and politics is being injected into our entertainment these days. I miss when entertainment was just entertainment and celebrities weren't pushing agendas. I shouldn't say anymore as these are sensitive topics and I'm just here to talk about video games.

I do like some music from time to time. Metal, synthwave, 80s style stuff, electronic music and some occasional indie stuff usually gets my attention. I recently got into The Cybertronic Spree. Gaming sometimes influences what I listen too, with Hotline Miami getting me to listen to more synthwave stuff and Volgarr the Viking making me check out Sonic Prophecy.

I don't like to talk about my age, but I'm probably one of the older members here. Without giving away too much I'll just say that I'm past the age of 30. I've followed the game industry for a long time, feel like I've watched it grow up through many eras. I'm not married, no kids...not yet anyway. I'm not opposed to settling down with someone. I have a pretty boring, office job...but they let me work from home which is cool

Oh yeah, I'm an occasional collector. I was on a GBA kick a few months ago, got a solid bunch of complete in box games, including Invader, CT Special Forces 3 and a cart only copy of Ninja Five-O

Welcome to the forums! I must admit...you made quite a splash with such great reviews in our “games beaten” thread. I’m interested in reading your opinions in other games, and I hope you’ll keep posting there.

There is much to like in these two paragraphs. We are in the same boat on both.

Glad to have you around and I'd love to hear about your reviews.
