It's not that the casting completely sucks. It's just that MTV wants young attractive people who specifically appeal to other young people, and in a way that's a little different from the CW strategy. I am not one of those young people, and so some of them aren't great. But some of the other actors and roles are fantastic.Stark wrote:I loved those books when I was a kid and despite it looking awful I've been tempted to give it a try. What makes it pretty good if the casting sucks? Writing overcomes it?marurun wrote:Been watching Chronicles of Shannara on Netflix. Aside from some of MTV's casting decisions, the show is actually pretty good.
As to the story, the actual plot progression isn't bad. The story so far appears to be dedicated to recounting the Elfstones storyline. There's a lot of nostalgia implicated in suckering me so far, I think it's important to disclose. But I had a lot of trouble when I read the novels (I was rather young at the time) picturing the world. This show has no such problems. The world is a visual treat that doesn't neglect the post-apocalyptic history of the world.
Basically, it's a solid story being told in a way that doesn't suck, with some pretty sweet visuals and effects.
