I've been re-watching Stargate SG-1 from the beginning. I finished the first season recently, and I remember why I fell in love with this show in the first place. Every episode in the first season was consistently engaging with likable underdog heroes, egotistical villains, fantastical planets, clever dialogue, and a well-paced plot.

The special effects are extra impressive for a television series from 1997. Showtime supplied ample sfx budget for a science fiction program, and (more importantly) the series creators new when to use practical effects over CGI. I wish that had continued when the series switched from Showtime to SciFi channel, but basic cable budget cuts will make swiss cheese of the sfx department in coming seasons.

The "world building" in this series is fantastic. Everything that happened in the movie Stargate remains true and is built upon here. Every time the writers introduce a new weapon, new technology, or new rule it becomes part of the series canon and will come up again in future episodes. This is both a blessing and a curse for Stargate. It's wonderful early on, but this canonical writing approach will bog down the series seven or eight seasons from now.

It's a strange feeling to watch a series I love so much, knowing full well that it doesn't end pretty. I think I'm just going to watch the first five seasons, and let it end there for me.

Don't have alot of time to watch tv but when I do its mostly antennatv. I think you only get that channel by antenna lol. Just like nick at night back in the day. I enjoy just sitting back watching threes company, dennis the menace, Mr ed, burns and gracie show, all in the family, the jeffersons, the ropers, threes a crowd, dear john, newhart, and a bunch of others.

Is it downhill after that or something?

Stargate is so good... The first season is a bit rough in places, but even with those issue it continues to build the universe and the characters. I think seasons 2.5-5 are probably the strongest.

But Babylon 5 seasons 2-4 still beat it for pure sci-fi awesome.

One episode in to Stranger Things. Good.

Continuing Cheers marathon. Good.

House of Cards. Like the hallucination scenes.

Last season of Wonder Years.

Watched another episode of Freaks and Geeks. So good. I only watch one ep every 6 months b/c I only have 5 episodes to go and don't want it to end.

Comic-Con Trailers. Justice League.... uhhhhh. Wonder Woman..... meh. Dr. Strange, yes.

You come pay me a visit and we'll bore my wife to death with a Babylon 5 marathon : )

(She doesn't dislike it, she's just not super into it.)

Been watching Chronicles of Shannara on Netflix. Aside from some of MTV's casting decisions, the show is actually pretty good.

I loved those books when I was a kid and despite it looking awful I've been tempted to give it a try. What makes it pretty good if the casting sucks? Writing overcomes it?
