I added OutRunners for the Sega Genesis this afternoon!

OuRun has been one of my favorite Sega series. My first game was ironically OutRun 2019, which I had as a kid and played the hell out of. When I got older, I eventually picked up the original OutRun for the Genesis and I really enjoyed that one too. I have been looking for OutRunners for quite a while now, but I have never been able to find it. Needing to buy a new Genesis game, I finally decided it was time to mark this one off the list.

I am very much aware of the split screen and that this is the black sheep of the original games, but I still wanted to try it for myself. Plus, it is hard for me to turn down a good racing game.

Good pick-up, Markies!

The Outrun games will always hold a special place in my heart, since they were some of the few arcade cabinets the stores had around here when I was younger.

I have had both the Dreamcast games for years, but I have always wanted to get the Gamecube one for the extra missions and local multiplayer. I don't have much interest in getting the game online, so being able to play co-op offline seems like a good compromise in order to play with others still.

...yeah, September is almost done and I'm just getting around to my August pickups . Well the 8th month of the year was a bit lighter than expected, but I did grab some additions that I was looking for. I've seen mixed impressions on Shadow Labyrinth, but I'm still looking forward to checking it out. Illusion Island should be fun w/the fam and I wanted to check out the new Yars game as well.

Nice! Probably the 'vanilla' release, and not Plus, right? I still personally like Ver2 on the Dreamcast best (there's really not much about Episode 2 I like, anyway), but I guess a lot of the people who still play PSO started with Ep1&2.

Usually there's this blanket sentiment that Plus is "definitive," but that's a little bit of an oversimplification because if you like speed running at all, Plus patched out some exploits that are used to blast through normal mode. There are a couple other bug fixes, but the other main thing Plus adds is a few of the online quests as offline quests: Seat of the Heart (primary side-story quest), East Tower, West Tower, Central Dome Fire Swirl (Burning Rangers themed quest). Not having East and West Tower can be a little bit of an issue if you happened to get into really hunting certain rares in VH and Ultimate difficulties, but I think you can download them for offline use with the original release if you connect to Sylverant servers or something online. I think it might be possible to just load the quest files onto a memory card offline with something like Swiss, too.

The big thing that can't be accessed without Plus is offline Ep2 Challenge mode. Unless you get really deep into PSO to the point of wanting ES weapon Needles and J-cutters to put Hell, Arrest, Demon's, Zalure, etc specials onto, that's not a big deal, though, as long as you don't just really love challenge mode. Ep1 challenge mode still gives Shots and Spinners which perform similarly, anyway.

One other benefit to the original release is that it allows for executing from backup discs on a GC without any mods. So there's that. Although, I don't know if that holds true for the PAL release--and looking at it, it seems like maybe Ep1&2 Plus didn't even get released in PAL territories.

Also, happy birthday!

Ok, this explains why I had been reading your post until the end wondering what this Plus version was and why I hadn't heard of it

Damn, I thought I had the definitive edition. But the PAL version came out a year later than the US one and had various bug fixes applied, so maybe it included the Plus content too? I tried looking it up, but information is very limited about the differences. If it doesn't, I'll have to look into getting the Plus version some time, because a Burning Rangers themed mission sounds awesome.

And thanks!

Picked up James Pond II: Codename Robocod for Mega Drive and Vampire Chronicle For Matching Service for Dreamcast.

I have quite a bit of nostalgia for James Pond. I never owned any of the games as a kid, but played them lots at friends' houses. Anyways, I played a bit this afternoon and it's pretty crap to be honest, but I can't complain for £10 really.

Vampire Chronicle on Dreamcast seems excellent though.

E~h, maybe, but I wouldn't count on it. Seems like the EU release was just before the Western Xbox releases, so I would assume that's probably the closest comp. The Japanese release of Plus came out almost 9 months after the EU GC release, and NA Plus released almost 10 months after that--.

At any rate, Fire Swirl is a pretty cool quest, but most people probably wouldn't play it more than once, and it's actually an Episode 1 quest that was originally made for Ver 2 on the Dreamcast. So, if you just wanted to experience it, it's pretty simple to just load the quest onto a VMU with an SD card reader. In Ver 2 there's an exclusive reward from the quest (I think it might have been the Mark III mag, but I can't remember), and there might have been a similar reward for it in Ep1&2, but I'm not sure.

It is pretty excellent just for having the ability to play any version of any Vampire character, from the original Vampire to Vsav2, inside Vsav. Kind of like the Vampire version of Hyper SFII or Ultra SFIV. Nice grab.

Reprise wrote: Wed Sep 24, 2025 8:55 am I also have Silent Hill f on the way to me, although that one seems on track to arrive a day or two late.

I want to play this at some point, but damn, I am not paying 70 bucks for a digital game on Steam. The Silent Hill 2 remake ended up on GOG, so maybe f does down the road too, and I'll think about it when it's on sale. I was really excited when I heard the other day that KoeiTecmo is releasing an update/remake of Fatal Frame 2, and was hoping that might be coming out next month, but alas. Silent Hill f seemed like it would make a good consolation, but I can't spend full price on a game these days when I already have a bajillion sitting around unplayed.

I actually pre-ordered Borderlands 4 for Switch 2 literally a day or two before they announced that it would be delayed indefinitely.

It's bad enough that the physical release was going to be on a lousy-ass game key card instead of a REAL physical release.

Any first-hand accounts on whether or not the PS5 version is any good? Just a reminder that I don't have the P55 Pro.
