sounds like a walkthrough is a must:
Unlike most point-and-click adventure games, which give the player time to explore, many actions in Dark Seed must occur within precise time limits, or the game will end up in an unwinnable state. As a result of this, one must start over repeatedly to win without resorting to a walkthrough.

Yeah the game runs on a timer, so if you can complete it, you will do so under an hour or so. There's just a lot of trial and error to get there. Noise if you end up playing and enjoying Dark Seed, it has a
sequel.

I played Oregon Trail a ton back in elementary school. Did I beat it? I can't recall. I don't think I did. I think some other kids did and I was jealous cuz they got to print out something that proved they beat it? Hmm. Either way, I actually own a physical copy - that same edition you linked a picture of, so good call.

Fine noise, go for something historically relevant - Jenny of the Prairie

It is the first graphical game with a female protagonist (possibly first game ever), beating Baraduke by a year and Metroid by two.

alright this is what you guys came up with so far:
Alien Carnage
Dark Seed
King's Quest
One Must Fall 2097
Oregon Trail
Zork
Interesting choices. And I actually already own three of those. Where's Bone, AJ, Key, etc?
