I'm sick of the sensationalist, cynical, negative media portraying misinformation.

What does it matter what people are saying? It got funded. Although it probably wouldn't hurt to update the kickstarter FAQ to be slightly more transparent to dispel any doubts.

Because Yu Suzuki himself has said that 2 million was just the minimum of what he required to make and release Shenmue 3, but that it would basically be in a bare bones state to appease the fans who wanted it badly. He has stated that he needs about $10M to make the game he wants and to have his full vision realised.

The funding levels have also had some pretty big drops over the last couple of days too. It could be trolls or people who have changed their mind on their pledge, but I can't imagine this negative press is helping.

It's difficult for a lot of people to understand, as a lot of people ask the same thing. "Who cares? It's been funded?" And I would be asking the same thing if it was a different project. But as someone who has waited 14 years for this and holds both Shenmue 1 and 2 as two of my favorite games of all time, I really want Shenmue 3 to be the best game it can possibly be. I don't want to see any sacrifices made due to lack of funding. It's just annoying when there is so much negativity in these articles and in the comments sections. Even those who aren't particularly negative have said things like "well, it's funded now and Sony are going to fund the rest anyways, so I'm just going to wait until it's released. I don't need to back it now."

I agree the Kickstarter needs updating and they need to up the marketing. At the moment, it's all a bit amateur.

Well to clear any confusion here's all they have to say:

"We have noticed that there have been some discrepancies regarding the funding of the Shenmue 3 project. Yes, we have secured secondary funding from other sources but we still needed a minimum of $X from kickstarter to cover costs in creating the base game. We would still like to achieve $Y from kickstarter to make the best Shenmue 3 experience. Thank you for the continued support. -Shenmue Team"

Essentially all I did was piece together the info from your image into a small paragraph. Put that on the kickstarter's front page and all is good.

Spreading out all this info across various sites doesn't help. It needs to be on the page where they take money.

I believe the truly open world comment that Yu Suzuki is hinting at is the level of immersion. In Shenmue, there were an abundance of objects and world elements to explore and investigate. In Shenmue II, it was greatly diminished. I read his original statement as something like that.

I'm not all that worried, we'll make around 6.6-8 Million I believe and they'll make do. We can only pledge what we can, and hope that the game sells well to fund the next.

Hopefully. From what I can gather, a lot of the stretch goals past $5M are really good, with lots of locations being opened up or expanded on. It really does seem to have slowed down to a crawl though, not to mention there obvious trolls (those of us monitoring the funding have watched it take heavy drops each time it's approaching a new stretch goal).

They way I see it, the $60 I put down was just a pre-order made early enough to help them make the game.

The $10,000 reward that someone backed out on has been taken up again and we hit the $3.5 million mark. Skill Tree unlocked! I hope there is a skill tree path for Forklift driving. 10% better handling!

Yup, it was a dude over at Shenmue Dojo. He's actually living and working in Guilin, which is pretty awesome.

Saw that thread Reprise. What a cool life he's led, teaching English to kids in China in Guilin no less. Talk about being inspired and doing some great service to others.

How has that community been in general? I've lurked there, but I remember reading some less-than-positive feedback from you regarding the Shenmue Dojo community.
