Also, you should not have a poll question with the word "since". This is a leading word. "Since you already ate 3 burgers, do you really need a 4th burger, fatty?"

alienjesus wrote:Although I think I was the one that originally suggested the 'no shmup because it has a club' policy last year, I voted 'yes' to allowing shmups and RPGs this year if necessary.
Last year I mainly suggested it to help narrow the field down, and because the shmup club seemed more inclusive of the forum as a whole.
Now, the shmup club seems to be focused on rarer or more obscure shmups (and there's nothing wrong with that!) so it seems to be one for the players who are more deeply involved in the genre than everyone as a whole. For that reason, I have no problem including shmup in Together Retro nominations.
I kinda feel that Together Retro is the place for cheaper, widely available games, whereas the shmup and RPG club can afford to dive into some of the rarer, more expensive or platform specific titles out there. It works well.
That's what I noticed as well. I personally haven't even gotten into any of the essentials, so I think shoot em ups have merit in Together Retro.

Updated:
And, for your viewing pleasure - a break down of games by genre with more than 3 votes each:
2D platformer: Monster World (5), Great Giana Sisters (3), Klonoa (3), MegaMan (3)
3D platformer: Psychonauts (4), Ape Escape (3)
RPG: Ultima IV (6), Castle of the Winds (4), Fatal Labyrinth (3), ShadowRun (3)
MMORPG: Phantasy Star Online (6), Final Fantasy XI (5)
Strategy: Starcraft (3)
Beat-em-up: Dungeons & Dragons (5), Knights of the Round (3), Powered Gear (3)
3D Hack n' Slash: Devil May Cry (3)
Run 'n Gun: Shock Troopers (4), Alien Soldier (4)
FPS: Deus Ex (6), Blood (5), Rainbow 6 (3)
Shmup: Ikaruga (6)
Rail Shooter: Space Harrier (7), Rez (3)
Adventure: The Longest Journey (4), Phantasmagoria (4), Loom (3), Gabriel Knight (3)
Action Adventure: Oddworld (7), Metal Gear (6), Monster World (5), Valkyrie no Densetsu (3)
Stealth: Metal Gear? (6)
Sim: MULE (4)
Puzzle: The Lost Vikings (8), Oddworld (7)
Racing: F-Zero series (4), Wave Race 64 (4)
Fighting: Eternal Champions (4)
Sports: Virtua Tennis (5)
Horror Themed games: Blood (5), Phantasmagoria (4), Typing of the Dead (3)
Other ideas: 4 people in support of bad game month.
The 3 most popular games so far are The Lost Vikings (8), Space Harrier (7) and Oddworld (7). Oddworld and The Lost Vikings are unfortunately the same genre though.
Several categories have LOTS of nominations with very little agreement on a game - particularly strategy & platformers.
It might be useful for someone to count the number of games nominated in a category vs the number of votes, and the number of unique votes (ie, to make sure one person isnt making up half the votes in a category and it's not popular with anyone else) to see what genres seem popular. I'm too lazy to do anymore tonight though.

I want put in a vote for Shadowrun as well. What version would we be playing? I've heard both are good so it doesn't matter to me.

+1 Warcraft 3 for strategy.
+1 F-Zero for racing.
+1 Rainbow Six for FPS
I noticed Oddworld and Rainbow Six are in two categories. I think Valkyrie no Densetsu could also qualify as a platformer or even a SHMUP

Sure, I added it to the list when I was at work, so I didn't get much time to look it up and I only know a little bit about it. I'll recategorise it next time I update.
