Even without the delay of Watch Dogs, I don't think the launch titles of either the XB1 or PS4 have been very strong, certainly not enough to warrant spending upwards of $600 just to get the newest thing. On top of that, it will probably be at least a year before any software is released that actually takes advantage of the new hardware. Are people that eager to have an expensive console sitting around collecting dust with only a few games to play on it?

Pretty sure my PS4 is $400. Not where the $600 is from. Sure, the line up isn't great, but I don't mind being an early adopter.

I highly doubt either of them will be "collecting dust" as there looks to be a pretty steady stream of titles coming to both systems that I'm looking forward to playing. I agree it's usually a bit for games to come that truly take advantage of the platform, but that doesn't mean there's nothing to play.

There are plenty of games:
Killzone:SF, Ryse, Dead Rising 3, Watchdogs, Titanfall, Thief, Infamous, Destiny, Project Spark, Wolfenstein (and there are more)..... Why not have the best console hardware to play them on?

I'm referring to the cost of several $60 games added to the cost of the console. Add taxes to that, and it's easily 600.

So build a PC? I'm half kidding but I have been on the fence about picking up a new console, I'm mostly leaning towards the Wii u or 2/3ds, and I finally decided that I should just build a PC due to the amount of games available and the long term cost is much easier to stomach for me.

Not that I don't understand why someone would want to pick up one of the new consoles on launch. I would just rather wait for a price drop and to be sure there's no red ring kind of issues before jumping in to the next console gen with both feet.

In my opinion, it just feels like more of the same. Nothing that interests me enough to warrant spending all that money. Out of those you listed, only Titanfall seems somewhat fresh and different from what we've had an entire generation of already. More Killzone, more Infamous, more Dead Rising, etc. If that's enough for you guys, then by all means, enjoy. When more interesting titles eventually come out, then yes, maybe I'll join the party. But at launch? No way.

That's why he said "console hardware."

One I am very much looking forward to for the Xbox One is Fantasia: Music Evolved. Titanfall looks pretty cool too even though I generally don't play FPS.

For the PS4 I am a little more iffy, but as I generally favor Japanese developed games I know it'll end up being my go to system for a majority of games. Both systems being region free helps a lot. If the Wii U were region free I would have probably kept it.

Does that mean that barring the purchase of a PS4 you can't buy any games? There are plenty of $60 games both out now and coming soon for current systems. There will also be plenty of sub-$60 games.

It's silly to buy "several $60 games" alongside your new console. That's the logic that backlogs are made of :)
