I'm really happy they brought 4 characters from Fire Emblem! But I feel like they could make the characters more diverse, I mean Marth, Ike, and Lucina are so similar in moves. Glad they final brought a Mage character, Robin. Though I'm not so keen on the fact that her moves have durability and break after a certain number of uses. I wish they had brought a Knight character for a slow and heavy powerhouse character, or maybe an Assassin for a super fast but light brawler. Perhaps those will be DLC.

Ike is a slow heavy powerhouse. He is drastically different than Marth and Lucina (who are really identical).

Just played a bunch of matches on-line as Mr. Game & Watch. Was wiping the floor with people with the exception of one Link player who was actually really good. We seemed to go back and forth a lot in the matches we played together.

When does this come out on Wii U? I'd like a party-game and to try out one of those amiibo figures...

Nintendo has said, "Some time this year," essentially. It was pushed back because of late found game-breaking bugs that they had to fix. Hopefully they announce a solid date soon outside of, "Holiday 2014."

To me Ike reminds me of Roy who was the slower more powerful version of Marth, but them and Lucina use swords. I wish they would of used some other classes like Knights with lances or axe wielders.

So I am trying to give this game a real shot, I have never been into smash in the past, always preferring more "traditional fighters". After watching some smash tournament matches I got interested enough to decide to pick this up.

I have tried each character for at least a match to get an idea of who i may like, and have no problem with fighting the computer, but as soon as I go online I get worked to the point of where I just jump off the ledge to get it over with quicker. Is there a good super noob tutorial I can refer to?

I recommend playing training. Playing competitively and playing competently are two VERY different things and it is really important to differentiate between the two when talking about getting good at Smash.

To be competent means understand not only your move set, but the move sets of the other character, but also knowing how to use those moves in ways to get the most bang for your buck.

As an example I am going to talk about my guy, Mr. Game & Watch. He doesn't have the raw power that a lot of the other characters have, so I need to string my moves together in inventive ways. His up special launches him up and hits people, but also allows me to attack as I parachute down. I launch a person up, as they try to recover, I up special to hit them and then follow mid-air and spike them for a smash.

The game is really about synergy and angles. Making your moves count and not attacking mindlessly. Understanding the angle of people's trajectories and using moves that you know will hit and disrupt them.

Learn to dodge and to block properly. No move will break a fresh shield in one hit, so be aware of that. Usually people on-line abuse the chaos by just charging up power moves. Block them and you have the advantage.

I also recommend playing a lot of 1-on-1 games. I would be happy to play against you and give you tips on how to improve. These 1-on-1s really give you a feel for your character and help you also understand these concepts even more, because there is no fear of retribution from random players and items. Once you get these basics down, you can control that chaos of a free-for-all and run the game.

Also, don't get discouraged, as a lot of times, you will be in a situation where two of the other players are completely incompetent and 1 will be very competent and abuse the situation, racking up the smashes. Judge your success by how many times you yourself get smashed out of the ring. If you can avoid being smashed and still get 2nd or 3rd, you should be proud that you didn't feed the other players.

Playing competitive is another thing all together. That is having intimate knowledge of frames, move effects and speed that is, in all honesty, mind-boggling to achieve in smash. I say, just play the game the way it was meant to be played and enjoy yourself. Learn the core mechanics and work on the fundamentals stated earlier and try some 1-on-1s with some friends. I will be happy to volunteer!

I feel like SSB isn't meant to be played against strangers over the internet, but with friends in the same room. Online just isn't the same.

That is why I enjoy playing 1v1 a lot more than group smash online. There is a bit more of an intimate fight that really makes it intense. Nothing beats a free-for-all with friends. Communicating your joy, frustration or need for vengeance towards a person can never be conveyed without voices.
