I'm reluctant to agree with you on either of them... but I'm worried that I agree with you on both of them. :|

I don't think people should accurately review this game if they haven't played most of the way through it.. Normal is 1/3rd of the game at most.. The whole point is building up levels and skills that compliments your playstyle like most rpgs.. I agree the stages are too linear, but most similar beat'em'ups were like that.. It's also obvious from the trophies that they encourage playing with all the classes which is another part of the game I think people ignore.. Every class seems to play differently, even a Sorceress and Wizard.. I don't think anyone expected this to be a Dark Souls open world experience when they purchased this and that's what it isn't.. It's a 2d beat'em'up with RPG elements.. Basically Borderlands but a 2D fighting game, which is a game that seems to get a ton of love here yet is just as repetitive in many parts.. And I have two max lvl 61 characters in that game and modded it on PC..

Ni No Kuni, really? I played that game from start to finish and consider it one of the best RPGs of the entire generation...what did you find so terrible about it?

Seriously, it still amazes me that all you guys are finding this game a disappointment.

This is the most fun I've had with a game since Demon's Souls. Hell, it's the most I've played a game constantly since Demon's Souls. I used to practice KOFXIII and SFxT every night, but I haven't played anything but this game. Haven't gone to a tournaments since this game. Hell, it's 6:17 AM right now for me, and all I've been doing is playing Dragon's Crown.

I mean, yeah, I can understand the "It's boring/repetitive" stuff coming from people who play modern games, but not people who grew up playing Golden Axe and Dragon Quest.

At least the guys on my fighting game forums are having the same amount of fun with this game as I am. No shortage of people to play with there.

The account system is one of the biggest problems for me. If you play online all the time, fine. Then there is no issue. But if you are like me and hang out with friends' on weekends then it's a massive letdown. :(

I mentioned other issues, but the account system is the biggest one. Yea, I can play my own game all week... But I get to my friends for local PS3 play? Oh well.. There goes my character. Can't use them.

for me, I think I have the opposite problem of most people complaining. I think I went into this wanting it to be more beat-em-up and less RPG. I probably would have been better off getting the D&D Chronicles of Mysteria Collection instead. That's not a problem with the game, though. It's more a problem of my own expectations.

RE: Ni No Kuni, I really haven't made a fully formed opinion on yet. I think the visuals are gorgeous. I think the voice acting is impressive. I like the story... I've just had trouble getting sucked into it. I'm not writing it off yet, though. And I definitely wouldn't call it terrible.

I've had a problem sticking with JRPGS in general this gen.. Oddly enough the most recent one I've beaten might have been Suikoden on PS1 lol.. I still love ToGF and will play ToX soon, it's just I get occupied with so many other genres of games like FPS and Fighters, that it's hard to come back.. P4G on Vita was the one that sucked me in the most and I still need to beat that as well.. Also for some reason there is an emotional attachment to games of said type.. I find it hard for me to finish something having to deal with that, when I can just have plain fun playing something mindless like a Tekken or Battlefield..

I've had a problem sticking with home console RPGs. Portable completion rate has been pretty high. Not sure why I even bought Xillia or pre-ordered Disgaea D2. It's fairly unlikely that I will complete them. Maybe I should try canceling D2.. And wait a few years for the inevitable Vita port.

This game is pretty much exactly what a site like this is all about.

It's a retro game? Oh, no it isn't. This site is "about" retro games.

For a site that lavishes so much praise towards Guardian Heroes to crap all over this game is more than a little strange.

Guardian Heroes is an arcade style game that can be finished in under an hour. Dragon's Crown takes some of those same basic gameplay elements and tries to stretch it into 20. It's not surprising that people find it repetitive/tedious/repetitious after a certain point, as that isn't what the genre is designed to do.

Oh wow, you really detest the game that much?

So much that you refuse to recognize that this game was the originally intended follow-up to Princess Crown, a game which this site has no shortage of praises for?

You refuse to recognize that this game has many of the same staff that worked on Capcom's Dungeons and Dragons series, which always seems to appear anytime someone asks people to list their top five beat em ups?

How about the fact that this is a retail release (remember how much you guys love those?) of a beat 'em up (remember how much you guys love those?)/dungeon crawler (remember how much you guys love those?)? How many times have you seen a 2D beat 'em up OR a dungeon crawler get a retail release on the PS3?

I mean, c'mon. There's a ton of games that I hate or have no interest in, but can still understand why they would be of interest to this site.

I've never played Princess Crown as I don't recall there being a US release. And I would want to follow the story. But Muramasa, also from Vanillaware, had a pretty decent story and characters for a side scrolling ARPG. And each character had their own story. Much better single player experience. But no multi.

Dragon's Crown brings us multi and doesn't deliver much of a story which hinders the single player experience. The hub world takes away any sense of adventure and the dungeons are very linear. Can't even backtrack if I wanted to.

But as I said before, the focus on this game is multi. But it needed a better multi player system. Why can't I bring over my solo character to a friend's PS3 when we do local co-op? Absolutely kills the experience for me.

My expectations may have been too high. I do believe that they'll get things right next time as I have faith in Vanillaware's abilities. Or maybe they'll just go back to single player.
