Well in DS1 trolls would take a Soul Level 1 character and run through a bunch of the game to get crazy endgame gear and then they could invade in Undead Burg and just wreck people.

The guide that came with Demon's Souls was actually pretty comprehensive. The main thing it doesn't have is really solid maps like the proper guides for the Dark Souls games and Bloodborne.

I could see trying out Shadow Tower, I'm kind of working backwards. Demon's Souls first.

Once you figure out that any decent hex build makes PvE a joke, the PvP options are endless. Mow through the main game and use Bonfire Ascetics to get the good stuff, hit the desired level and SM, tweak your build with a Soul Vessel and you have a DEX or fat man build without all of the difficult garbage associated with a doing melee PvE.

I couldn't ever get into Bloodborne PvP. The main game was amazing, but it didn't seem like there was enough equipment to warrant anything unique among most players. I locked horns with a couple of invaders, but that was about the extent of it.

As for Demon's Souls, I'm gonna try a semi-blind run armed only with the guide that came with the Deluxe edition after the novelty of DS3 wears off. I've seen my way through a bit of that one but nothing substantial. Should be a treat. :D

DS3 PVP is pretty sucky, nothing but gangs. The levels are also way too huge, so a lot of people will just hide. And magic completely sucks in DS3, lol. I don't really care about this in the grand scheme of things, but it's kind of bummer since I had a TON of fun with DS2 and the covenant stuff when I wanted a break from the main game. I had the most fun with DS2 and online stuff by far. The cool broken off covenant specific areas were awesome small arenas for PVP, and it was always active... minus the gangs. And yeah, tons of build possibilities with this one and four magic paths essentially, etc. There is an overload of content and equipment in DS2, but... that made for unique encounters with players online pretty much every time.

Yeah I suppose with as crazy as the community is with these games, there will always be some sort of a ridiculous exploit that will become common practice once it hits YouTube. It just wasn't nearly as intuitive for me on DS1 considering it was my first real leap into the souls universe.

That's good to know. The reviews on Amazon for the DS3 guide suggest that it's really gone downhill lately.

I'm having a hard time justifying the price tag on that one, but hey - I've made poorer choices with money in life. Perhaps when the opportunity arises...

I'm in danger of sounding like a broken record here, but... Scholar, man. Scholar. If it's not in your library, it can be had on a next-gen console for relatively cheap and it's still bustling. It's gotta be dropping to the $10-15 range soon.

The DS3 guide is still extremely solid; the maps are good, it describes all the crazy shit you need to do for the various sidequests, etc. The main place it falls down compared to the Bloodborne guide is that Bloodborne goes into super deep details on the movesets of weapons and the upgraded stats of all the items. So if you're trying to min max for PVP the DS3 guide is a letdown, but if you want to use it to go through the game it's just fine.

Here's a fairly straightforward checklist if you want to do the sidequests and what not: https://zkjellberg.github.io/dark-souls-3-cheat-sheet/.

It spoils locations and boss names and whatnot, so beware if that bothers you.

I got the platinum for DS2 Scholar. Sorry if I didn't make it clear I played both versions and had an excellent time online both times.

I bought a brand new copy off Amazon end of 2013 for...$13.55. What the hell happened?
