@mjmjr25: I know those PCBs can be pretty expensive. Do you ever worry about them just dying on you since they are so old? I would be terrified of investing that much money into such old tech. I'm not judging at all. I think it's awesome that you have such hard to find gaming stuff, I'm just curious.

Actually, quite the opposite. I have fears of newer things (CD based and beyond) working long term. With disc drives, lasers, and the general fragility of discs, i'd much rather have boards. They are somewhat fragile and prone to static shock, or chips leaking on them, but for the most part, most boards can be repaired if damaged. Either reflashing a rom, reflowing a cold joint, or changing a bad cap. With a disc, one deep scratch and your done - you're $200 disc is done, even with a non-working board, it has value to someone who can repair it, or at least take it for parts. The few boards i've had that I couldn't repair (maybe 5%) i've been able to sell for roughly 70% of fully working value.

The reality is, the KLOV forums are generally based around 1980's arcade games - Donkey Kong, Pac Man, and Tron PCB's, etc. I like the chances of a PCB from 2001 being around a lot longer than a disc from 2001, to be honest.

Well as you know, these came from Africa, so that makes sense.

When the son of the deposed king of Nigeria emails you directly, asking for help, you help!

It does not always work out good though. My Giga Wing 2 Naomi cart had bad chips and needed repair work when I got it. And my Prehistoric Isle 2 cart was broke as well. Both repair jobs were not to far off from the price of working carts too. I think the Giga Wing 2 repair set me back about $130, totally worth it though!!!

I can repair "some" things, but for others it is imperative to have buddies who will look at it and repair it at cost for sure - if you have to send out to a shop...yr in trouble. Point taken here though is that it can usually be repaired...a disc w/a crack in it is done for. Or a box that gets dented or smooshed by yr kids devalues yr CIB Hagane by 50%, so I still prefer long term viability of pcb's to old cardboard and new discs.
