I forgot about Skyrim  Also another note regarding Rage: The mind-control darts were another wasted opportunity. They reminded me of Mindjack which was an average TPS.. Rage has a few neat ideas but never fully realises any real potential.

Raven makes better games than id. A clear example of this is Quake 4.

Sleeping was something added to various STALKER mods. It isn't there in vanilla.
I also randomly died of radiation at one point, I used vodka and unequipped the artifact I had on that I think was causing it, but I just kept losing health even at a camp. It was weird.
In general you don't want to run any artifacts until you have at least one that removes radiation. But if you built up a high enough radiation level only one swig of vodka might not be enough. If you have any rad away that's the better medicine to use.
Combat isn't as bad as I remember, still takes like a clip or two to take down a single enemy but oh well. Is it good to use iron sights in this game? In the random LP I was skimming over earlier the guy almost never used it and just unloaded on enemies and it seemed to somehow work ... lol.
It is very useful for the early guns, but later on your guns become accurate enough that you don't need to iron sights anymore and will only zoom in for scoped weapon sniping. That point should come when you fight the mercenaries past the Bar.
I'm digging it. It does feel a bit barren and simplistic, but maybe it gets better later.
Early on they're still setting up things. The path to Agroprom is when the atmosphere starts to pick up, and the area that you go to after that is awesome.

Nice, I actually saw my friend play some of the stuff around the "bar", which I think I'm kind of coming up too. Definitely looks like it'll pickup there, I remember him doing interior levels and stuff too which looked awesome.

Do you ever get a bigger backpack or anything? I'm having some inventory management issues, haha. Also do the little crates/boxes you can put stuff in keep those items if you leave the map and all? I'll probably find out soon since I'm heading back to one I put some stuff in.

I don't concur... I liked Quake 4 but I still think it's a poor man's Doom 3, even if it's faster paced I just think Doom 3 was a lot better. Wolfenstein 2009 I thought was horrible (the weird vision effect was extremely nauseating to me since you had to keep switching back and forth so quickly), and yeah I generally don't like Raven games. I think Singularity is probably the best thing they've ever done, now that one I really enjoyed.

Your backpack stays the same size. There is a set of late game armor that increases your weight capacity by 10 lbs (though it's weighty on its own, so it mostly is just compenstating for its own weight). The thing about inventory management is that guns don't bring a lot of money for their weight; you're better off stripping out the ammo and dropping the guns, and then selling unneeded ammo.

Yeah, right now I have a pistol, shotgun, AK-74u, and some other machine gun. Guess I should drop one or two? lol. I guess maybe the pistol would be worthless for now and I've got like 500+ bullets of that, maybe that'd free up some space.

Yeah, the pistol is worthless, same with the shotgun. At this stage of the game you'll probably trade off between the AK and the MP5 (the grey submachine gun) depending on the enemies you're facing (specifically, the ammo they drop). So hang on to both of those. That's another nice feature that was added to many STALKER mods; the ability to put a small SMG into your pistol slot. In vanilla STALKER that slot ends up being completely unused because there's only one or two pistols that do any real damage and by the time you get them you have a scoped rifle that does as much damage but is easier to use and can engage at a longer range.

One thing you'll notice is that a few weapons will have a green arrow on their icon; these represent unique items. They all have something special to them, whether it's additional damage, more protection of a certain kind, or an MP5 chambered for pistol rounds.

Also, the wooden crades and blue briefcase-like containers you see? You can hack those open with your knife. The small blue ones especially tend to have supplies in them, but even crates sometimes do.

Good to hear. I like using the pistol but it does seem worthless right now.

Yep, thanks to checking out a few LP's of people doing the early bits of the game, I finally learned about that... completely had no idea that's how you got items out of that stuff, lol. The knife seems completely worthless in combat though, can't hit crap!

So if I equip any artifact right now that has like +5 Radiation, is that going to cause my health to drain overtime, until I get another artifact to cancel that out or something? Kind of sounds like you said that above. Just seems like a nono to equip most of the artifacts I have right now.

You just gotta be super close. In some of the mods that increase the darkness and make stealth more viable you can actually go around knifing an entire enemy platoon without reprisal, as knife kills don't draw enemy attention. But in vanilla? It's a crate buster.

That's correct. It gives you +5 Radiation a second so unless you have another artifact to counteract that your radiation level will continue to rise. Once radiation hits a specific point you start to take health damage, and at higher levels than that you take faster health damage. There are other artifacts that lower your radiation in exchange for some other downside, but that downside is either negligible or easily covered with a third artifact, to create a triangle of support where each one gives more than another takes. And then there's a couple of unique artifacts that just provide a benefit with no downside.

I saw there's some endurance artifacts, definitely hope I find one of those soon.

Man that Merc suit I found at the beginning is pretty much dead now, I just ran through some tunnels and now I have to steal these documents from this army base. These army guys are taking me down pretty easily, I need some new armor or something lol.

Also, I think this game is funking with my speakers/sound or something. Now that I'm listening to music outside of the game it's all messed up ... guess I'll restart my PC. Is that some weird issue with the game or something?

Just made it through Nova Prospekt in HL2 on the oXbox. That part of the game nearly burns me out every time. I just have to tell myself "Once you get through it, the game becomes awesome again."

If they had made it about 20 minutes shorter with maybe only one sequence where you had to wait around it would've been much better.
