God the comments section on that article is just depressing. It doesn't seem to occur to most of those users that those with a hacked system aren't necessarily pirating games on it.

Oh well, I never used PSN anyhow, so it's not a big deal to me.

I felt the exact same way.

Looks like a PSN network ban for modded systems is in the immediate future.

Goddamn, look at those comments. They're just eager to suck off Sony's giant corporate cock.

EDIT: Poor bastards probably aren't even aware of the Rootkt in Sony's latest malware, I mean, firmware.

I wont be pirating PS3 games because they are large and will eat up tons of my bandwidth to get them. I am interested however in homebrew applications that might be kinda cool. Such as a PS2 emulator. I am not very keen on Sony installing a rootkit on my system either. But I still wanna play new games such as Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 and Portal 2 perhaps on my PS3 or go on PSN to get all sorts of awesome games they have. Damn it Sony you are starting to get on my nerves.

Did I ever say how much I miss the old days of just inserting the disc/cartridge and just playing? Well I am saying it now. Firmware is a load of bollocks. These new systems are becoming more and more like a PC, so what is the point of playing on a console? I might as well play a PC.

Dear Sony,

Go ahead and ban me.. Seriously, go right ahead!
Since I only buy exclusive-to-the-PS3 games and everything else on the XBox, and play any multiplayer games I have on XBox Live, I can count on one hand how many times I've actually logged onto your shitty "free" PSN..
I enjoy having the ability, (no wait - the freedom,) to consolidate all of my owned consoles onto one unit, thereby saving my entertainment stand the brunt of about 5 systems; thanks to your machine's beefy processor and ease-of-use for aspiring talented developers to create their own code for.. Because of this fact alone, I'd whole-heartedly support your business structure, to assure the machines continued success, and thank you for giving us a great tool for our living rooms..
- - - but, alas, you're nothing more than a corporate conglomeration of douchey fuck-bags that want nothing more than to control not just your loyal customers' wallets but also their sold and rightfully-owned property.

Sony, your actions are not just asinine, they're downright fascist!

I'll lose no sleep at night continuing to run my "illegal" and "unauthorized" programs on MY Playstation..

Good luck with everything, Sony.. I wish you guys nothing but continued financial success and look forward to "playing" with your next PSP and Playstation...

I'm confused, isn't this the exact same thing microsoft does? Why is Sony the only one called evil?

And did anyone ever expect a corporation run by old idiots (either it be Microsoft Sony or even Nintendo before the Iwata days) to think outside the box about copy protection?

And to be fair, how many people will really run only homebrew games? Cause even though we use them, emulators are also kind of illegal.

But unless you care for multiplayer (and if it wasn't for LittleBigPLanet 1&2 personally I wouldn't care and I'd mod my console), and let's be honest it's not like console gaming has a lot worth playing online, then I don't think most people will care about being banned from PSN compared to free games/emulators.

Is homebrew producing anything really good anyway? Emulators are cool, but I can just hook up my laptop to my TV and play emulated that way anyway. Unless they make a PS2 emulator...hmmm

We talked about this a few pages ago, and it's impossible to do on a PS3. Maybe next gen consoles will be strong enough to do it.

Well, since the PS3-Rootkit seems to be false, it doesn't really bother me anymore.
