Correct. Someone figured out the clue I didn't edit out.

Shame sir, no battery!
It was a wild guess. I actually was looking here (
http://www.nintendoage.com/index.cfm?Fu ... 8&lgID=141) but there wasn't quite enough to cue me in. What was I supposed to be looking for? Is it just the SLROM-03?

I edited NES and Nintendo off the image. Only later NES carts have that big gap exactly in the middle of the pins. Even if you'd cleaned NES carts without opening them, its pretty obvious if you're paying attention. If you look on the 2 big chips, they say *blank*-VM-PRG and *blank*-VM-CHR. All licensed NES games have a code of NES-##.

The one for Blaster Master is NES-VM and if you knew about the codes you can google it even if you don't have that particular game. You can see it in the blown up scan of that cart too. Those 2 chips are the Character and Program storage. Now, for those thinking that's not fair if they don't open carts, it was usually printed on the label on the cart, the book, and on the box somewhere. :)

I remember thinking it was monumentally stupid to choose a 2 letter code for games and they quickly started running out of meaningful ones. Legend of Zelda is NES-ZL, which makes sense because its an early game. But NES-VM? Yeeeeah. Some games have a letter and a number.

Ah - I see! Learned something new. You're right, of course: http://www.google.com/search?q=nes-vm&i ... =firefox-a

Funny that I found that first site anyway with the MMC1B2 and the SLROM-3 - just wasn't sure if I had enough info yet!
