That's why I'm ordering the network. I really hope they add World-Class Championshiop Wrestling to that backlist of shows, too.Gamerforlife wrote:WWE wants to hype the nostalgia factor on the network. We'll likely see Hogan and Sting soon I'd guess, and it's no coincidence Jake the Snake and the Ultimate Warrior are going in the hall of fame this year. Probably not a coincidence that the New Age Outlaws just became tag champs either. All just speculation on my part, but the older, WWF footage and WCW footage is a draw for the network. Sting could be the guy getting people to remember WCW and get the network for that purpose

Re: The Wrestling Thread
I still don't get what's the big deal with Roman Reigns. I liked him as a member of the Shield, but this big singles push they are giving him is leaving me cold and I really hate how they're handling this Shield dissension. It feels forced, and it feels too soon. Batista's face turn against Evolution was handled FAR better. I don't like it. And frankly, if I'm thinking of pushing these guys as singles stars, I start with Dean Ambrose. He's the most interesting character in the group, followed by Seth, who is the best wrestler in the group and decent on the mic, with Reigns in last place as far as I'm concerned.
I look at Reigns and I see Ezekial Jackson, Mason Ryan, Big E, etc. In order words, just another boring big guy getting a big push because he's big

Re: The Wrestling Thread
Wow, fans hijacked a recent NXT taping with non stop Punk chants. And WWE's facebook has Punk chants and we want Punk comments all over the place, along with a few comments here and there trashing the current product and complaining about the Rumble
It's all kind of funny in a way. I wonder what the Raw crowd will be like. Now you have fans pissed about Bryan AND Punk. Cena had an interesting tweet two days ago:
"Interesting time 4 @WWEUniverse on both sides of curtain."
If I was AJ Lee(a.k.a Punk's girlfriend), I'd come out with my hands taped like him. Or maybe she could do a running knee into the corner in one of her matches...subtle. I bet she'd get a loud pop and start getting super over week by week, forcing a face turn and maybe getting the company to start pulling up some NXT girls just to have some decent heels to throw at her. I'd love to see AJ become the female Punk. Not only is she dating him, she droped a promo trashing Total Divas and the whole divas roster a few months ago that people called AJ's "Pipebomb"

playing the RETRO card will probably increase the viewership for a short while, but I doubt fans of today want to see Sting vs Hogan for wrestlemania , simply because they are too old. Thats like Chicago Bulls signing Michael Jordan to play for their team. Sting wears a shirt when he wrestles because his body is probably flapping around .
But trying to build hype on old wrestlers just proves my point that WWE has not created any talent in the last 10 years at least. I do not remember the WWF or WCW bringing in wrestlers from the 70's to create hype back in '96 , in fact, many people say WWF won the monday night wars because WCW pushed older wrestlers(Flair, Hogan, Macho) and WWF created newer ones (Rock, Austin, Triple H, Kane) .
as for the WWE network, I think it sucks if I had to watch what they put on but I think it would be great if I can watch what I want like Netflix .

Re: The Wrestling Thread

I hope Bray Wyatt breaks Taker's streak some day. He's such the perfect character to tell that story, and he could even get an assist from a heel turning Kane. Bray is Undertaker for a modern era. He's that perfectly creepy character who talks about crazy supernatural stuff like being dead and being the devil. He has a nice, creepy intro like Taker too. Hell, him and his brothers are even starting to appear inside the ring after the lights go out. And his promos are mind blowingly good. His latest one against The Shield on last week's Smackdown may be his best one yet, and I was shocked to see the other Wyatt's speak too! And they just added to the awesomeness of it.

I dunno... The Undertaker is up there with Hogan. I do not think they will let Wyatt end his streak. When Hogan was going to job for someone, he did it for the Ultimate Warrior, another icon.

Which ended up being one of the worst decisions in the company's history, because everyone backstage hated Warrior and he couldn't wrestle a good match to save his life and ultimately he was not able to use his win over Hogan to boost his career.RCBH928 wrote:I dunno... You're also comparing apples to oranges. The Hogan/Warrior match is not nearly as significant as ending the streak, and today I doubt they'd give that honor to someone like Warrior, who would not deserve it on any level
And lastly, Warrior is not an icon. Hogan is. You can't even toss in Warrior's name in with people like Austin, Rock, Flair, Macho Man, Undertaker, etc. He's not even remotely in their league
Anyway, Bray can wrestle and he has great promos. If they spent a year, or maybe two building him up as a believable main eventer, he could be the guy that ends the streak, which would cement him as a top tier heel for years to come. WWE is desperately in need of good heels. Randy Orton sucks, and his last heel turn has been a bust thanks to Triple H and Stephanie burying him on TV on a weekly basis by talking to him like he's a child. The duo of Heyman and Lesnar is awesome, but Lesnar is a part timer so you can't make him a top heel. I think Dean Ambrose is top heel material, but the only member of the Shield WWE seems interested in right now is Reigns, because he - to quote someone I heard on a recent podcast interview, "looks good naked".
I kind of wish Vince and Hunter would bite the dust, as terrible as that sounds, and Cena would get a career ending injury. I'm so sick of how boring that product is and it's because of those three men.

Re: The Wrestling Thread
Totally agree. It was such an outstanding promo. I love when Luke said "you picked a beautiful hill to die on." Then add in Rowand finally talking and Bray talking about dancing with Reapers and loving war and the whole feud just intensifies with that one 1.5 minute piece.Gamerforlife wrote:

Re: The Wrestling Thread
I know A LOT about the era when Hogan and Warrior were the it guys. It wasn't so much that guys hated him (at least not at first), nor was it that he couldn't use the win. It's that he let it all go to his head, literally. He started believing his own hype and thinking he was this larger than life guy (he still does). At first though, he was a hard-working, well rounded performer that the WWF could count on.Gamerforlife wrote:Which ended up being one of the worst decisions in the company's history, because everyone backstage hated Warrior and he couldn't wrestle a good match to save his life and ultimately he was not able to use his win over Hogan to boost his career.RCBH928 wrote:I dunno... It was almost immediately after that WM VI run that he started to believe his own hype and started getting greedy. He started asking for more and more money and he started refusing to work with certain people. At first, the WWF obliged. But at a point, they said no more. When that happened, Warrior started refusing to do booked shows and or just did no-shows all-together. Then of course, that caused a lot of back-and-forth animosity between him and the rest of the company (and of course him refusing to work with certain people, didn't earn him any friends in the back).
When I say he started believing his own hype, I mean that in the most literal sense, too. He lives and breathes that Warrior character, and lives by those credos, now. Go check him out on YouTube, it's kind of funny.
