Dang about to finish Death Parade as well. Just finished episode 11 of 12 and was pleasantly surprised to see Light from Death Note make a brief cameo  .

Edit:

Finished Death Parade and I have to say that the ending was definitely one of the best this season they really went heavy on the feels. There is room for another season but I would be totally satisfied it it ended here even though there are some loose strings plot wise.

Have you watched other Makoto Shinkai movies? I've seen a couple others or so, and so far none of them have really had a super straightforward story. Could actually make them a great entry into anime for some people though. The film festival type crowd, for instance. Not that one as much though, but 5 Centimeters Per Second or the Garden of Words, perhaps (plus those are much shorter  ).
I honestly haven't, but I'd give his other films a shot. You do have a point on his films being easy entries into Anime for people, upon rethinking it. Kinda like how my entries into actual Anime (in other words; anything that wasn't from my childhood) were Sword Art Online, and Black Rock Shooter (looking back; SAO was....meh, and I still like Black Rock Shooter a lot).

You know I was in an anime too! It was so much fun being in Japan. My girls and the minions loved it!

So recently, I've been watching FLCL (or Fooly Cooly, as some people call it) on Hulu.

My main goal was to see if I could actually find a plot in this series, since everyone says they can never find one.

I'm 5 episodes in.

Only 1 more episode to go.

I still have 0 idea on what's going on.

But I know the series was created to be more of a, "watch it for some laughs", compared to other Anime, and I gotta say; I've been enjoying it. It's weird, bizarre, and confuses me to no end.

....Yet, I can't look away.

That's really the most dead-on description of FLCL I've ever seen. Love that show

I finished watching Attack on Titan. I really like how well it creates feelings of hopelessness and despair, but then through creativity and sheer determination, shows that there may actually be a way to survive the unsurvivable... and then makes you wonder if it was worth the cost of surviving, but still leads you on with new hope and intrigue. The show is pretty brilliant, though it has some pacing problems that make it feel like it is dragging on a little too long and it has a flair for the overdramatic at times as well. I will keep watching when I can get season 2 though.

Now I have moved on to Ghost in the Shell: Arise. The first one, Ghost Pain, was pretty good. I like how the Section 9 team was formed by independent character lines converging. I am not a huge fan of origin stories, but it was fun to see Kusanagi, Togusa, and Botou get together for the first time. Also, ghost hacking is a crazy sci fi concept.

FLCL is about how it feels to be a twelve-year-old boy. Every adult is an idiot. Every woman is a confusing sex kitten who sends mixed signals. Everything is aggravating. Robots are cool. You need to pretend to be unimpressed by everything so you can be cool too. This is the twelve-year-old boy psyche.

Now this actually makes FLCL really deep. I never thought of it this way.

Death Parade is awesome. Turns out it's the first anime series from a new writer. I hope he continues to work with MADHOUSE. I'm glad to see some fresh talent in the industry. I am SO sick of high school harem anime and ecchi magic girls everywhere. Death Parade and Psycho-Pass have been breaths of fresh air.

Here are the some of the new shows this season that I just started.

Image

Owari no Seraph(Seraph of the End)- This show is freaking awesome and will probably be one of the best this season. Great action, awesome setting, and the writers definitely are not wearing kiddy gloves as I feared might happen given the young cast of episode 1 and the fact that things got kind of slow/peaceful in the middle of the episode. The ending was downright golden though and really showed how far they were willing to push the envelope with the conflict between Humans and Vampires. Really can't wait to see how this series will play out if you liked the action in Attack on Titan or if you like Vampire shows in general give this a go.

Image

Triage X- This show is pretty neat. Basically a group of vigilante doctors/nurses are "excising" the criminal underbelly of their city. The animation looks really well done and they jump straight into the action right off the bat. The story sounds like it could be interesting but it's being revealed kind of slowly. The main character looks like he possibly has a really good back story as well but they are focusing more on action then story progression it seems so things are still a little unclear. This show does however suffer from excessive fan service there are a large variety of breasts in this show many of which are unrealistically large, and all of which are bouncing around 24/7 it's kind of on a similar level to Highschool of the Dead if you've ever seen that. Hopefully they don't get to bogged down in the cutesie girls and jiggle physics because the rest of the show looked really good.

Image

Shokugeki no Soma(The Spirit of the Food Halberd)- Basically a cooking show with a promising apprentice chef making challenging/interesting dishes as he seeks to prove he is the best. Really like the characters and the food dishes look amazing. Really some interesting ideas I genuinely want to try the dish shown at the end of episode 1 since it featured BACON used in a way I hadn't imagined  . Looks like it will turn into a kind of school drama with him facing off against other chefs in the top culinary school in Japan. Really like the energy of the show and it looks like it has a lot of promise. However it does get really weird at times and is labeled as "food porn" by a lot of people because the characters are basically having orgasms while they eat half the time  .
