Ok, well that's about the response I expected. Look. I get it, sincerely. But taxing Romney or any other rich person more isn't going to put more money in your pocket. You think the government is going to appropriate those funds to give you a break or a kick back? Please.

You are only going to pour more money into the government for them to manage poorly. I'm not saying that you should be taxed at 30%, I'm saying that worrying about what other people are being taxed solves nothing.

Also, just an observation, as a history teacher with a minor in political science, you seemed to describe the redistribution of wealth by taxing the rich quite well. All the while saying that is not the intended purpose. Just saying.

In any case, if you missed the part where I mentioned that I am a tax paying middle class democrat, and that I could understand where you were coming from quite well...it's there too, in the same paragraph you selectively responded to.

Bill Gates could afford to be taxed 99% and still live a wonderful life, do you think he shouldn't have the money he earned? Why not? If all you propose is that you are taxed at the same rate, then I hear you. If you propose that a person should be taxed on what they can afford to lose, well my friend, you are in the wrong country.

If you and I are bringing dinner to the table and I provide the meat and potatoes while you bring the bread. I'm not sure you should concern yourself with how much money I have left in my pocket. Fair wages and less outsourcing would be a better thing to focus on, again IMHO.

But, what do I know? I'm not a history teacher.

If you are so keen on raising tariffs, then I suppose you do not mind that the rest of the world would also raise their tariffs on American products. Tit for tat, it's only fair.

I'm not concerned with more money entering my pockets. I'm concerned with the fact that our infrastructure is crumbling, veterans are being strung out to dry, our soldiers are being sent to half the battlegrounds in the world, our education systems are crap, and our health care delivery system is the laughing stock of the developed world. All of that takes tax dollars to fix. Taxing Romney and Rates at 99% won't fix it, you're right, but neither will taxing the lower classes at high rates while giving the upper classes hundreds if not thousands of loopholes by which to legally evade paying taxes.

I don't want their tax dollars to go into my pocket. I want it to provide veterans with psychiatric care, provide students with the technology they need to succeed academically, provide the elderly with the medical care that they need, and provide Americans with bridges that don't collapse and water that isn't toxic. That's not about me. I would benefit from better school funding as a teacher, but I didn't say anything about my salary; first and foremost we need to supply the schools.

That's my problem. We have so much debt and so many expenses, and yet we refuse to close the loopholes letting billions of dollars slip away while increasing taxes on those least able to pay.

On all of that, we agree.

I just don't think it would happen. Tax the rich all you like, the prices of everything they have their hand in will simply increase to match. As long as it is a free economy then the problem is compounded by using taxes as a band-aid. That is, assuming of course that the funds would get funneled into those channels in the first place. Since those don't seem to be priorities now, I don't think they would become priorities with more funding either. They should, but they won't.

As a just-in-case, I didn't intend any of that to sound hostile or anything. A lot gets lost in text, and I know politics is a hot issue for most, so I just wanted to make sure I wasn't misunderstood, and I apologize if anything was taken to be hostile.

It's all good man, no offense taken. Same to you, no hard feelings I hope.

I tend to be a bit of a smart ass sometimes. It's not as abrasive if you know me.
