I'm gonna play some SNK Neo Geo MVS games on my SNK Neo Geo AES with an MVS-to-AES convertor and then maybe play some SNK NGP games on my backwards compatible SNK NGPC.

There's already a thread.

Another thread derailed into a "what should it be called"? situation, and there was a good official letter here that ended that pretty quick -

There. GC and NGC are no longer approved. PER NINTENDO.

Approved: NINTENDO GAMECUBE
Not approved: Nintendo GAMECUBE
:?
I can see their reasoning, wanting to include the N letter in the abbreviation, but their corporate worries should not concern the gaming public. Yet they want to call it "NINTENDO GAMECUBE" or "Nintendo GameCube", but the abbreviation reads "GameCube Nintendo", so why not call it NGC? And like it says in the letter, that's Nintendo of America, not Nintendo. In Japan it's just "GC" like it should be. That generation is dead by now so in any case it's an irrelevant point.
Usually the brand name is only used in the abbreviation when it comes to platform names that would be too vague when shortened, like Commodore 64->C64, Nintendo 64->N64, Sega CD->SCD, while Sega 32X->32X and Sega Mega Drive/Genesis->Gen/Genesis/MD. But no one talks about "NWii" "SSaturn" "SPS3" "MXbox" "NGBA" etc.

Not only is PSX factually incorrect by now, it's also illogical. Unlike any other console manufacturer, Sony decided to to name their consoles using a chronological order, so PS(1), PS2, PS2 and PS4 are very clear and logical terms. Even ignoring the fact that Sony has indeed launched a PSX, I still don't see a reason to use the term as no other console is reffered to as by their development name. People don't call the GameCube the "Project Dolphin".
"GameCube Nintendo". No console is named like that. You don't talk about the "Wii Nintendo", "Game Boy Advance Nintendo" or the "Genesis Sega". So why would you say GCN? Even if you said NGC, the letter N would still be redundant. What else GameCube would you be referring to? The Commodore GameCube? Sure there is the Panasonic Q, but it's rare, and the abbreviation should refer to the standard base model. People don't abbreviate Genesis/Mega Drive as "SGenesis" or "SMD" just because there is a LaserActive console that can play Sega games. Ditto PC Engine.

Here's how i call every console when i talk to people in real life with them:

NES (i say the letters out loud, "N-E-S")

Genesis (always called just plain "Genesis")

SNES ("S-N-E-S", although i have a friend who calls it "SNESS" which doesnt bother me)

N64 (does anyone not call it "Nintendo 64" or "N-64"?)

GameCube ("GCN" works too, but ive never heard anyone call it the "NGC" in a real face to face)

PS1 ("PSX" ive only seen on the internet and ive referred to it that too, it doesnt bother me, "PS1" seems universal)

PS2 (same as above)

Xbox (im a strong advocate of calling it the "oXbox" "Original Xbox" works too)

Xbox 360 (pretty much always refer to it as "The 360", or "360")

PS3 (same as "PS1" and "PS2")

PS360 (i think this is acceptable when talking about a game that is being released on both, ive used it before and no one threw a shit)

Xbox One (not sure on this one yet, but i giggle at the thought of referring to it as the "Xbone", or "Xboner", and ill never refer to it as "The One")

PS4 (business as usual)

Dreamcast ("DC" or "Dreamcast")

etc....

Does anyone else prefer the original DS to the DS Lite? I keep hearing that the DS Lite was a big improvement, but I don't get it.

Yeah i like the DS Lite alot more, lighter, brighter, longer battery life and the buttons dont bother me, i know people refer to them as "squishy" but meh.

Just like the 3DS XL, not sure how anyone can use the original 3DS after having used the 3DS XL, the battery life and screen size are the biggest winners imo.

I still prefer idiots to say 360 instead of just Xbox, and save the original Xbox that was called just that a RENAMED name. That's annoying.

I hate people calling the PlayStation a "PS1" the same way I hate when people call Die Hard "Die Hard 1".
