Uncharted Drakes Fortune is extremely overrated imo. It just didn't live up to the hype. I admit I got to playing only about a year ago so It might be due to aging. The environments weren't anything special, the enemies are repetitive and have the same annoying phrases. And boy is this game the textbook definition of a linear game. I mean you're literally doing the same thing over and over again. You platform the area and fight off wave after wave of the same enemies with the same stupid phrases. Do that about 2 or 3 more times and you will encounter a puzzle. It's not a bad game by any means. It's just extremely linear and not as good as everyone said it was. Because of this game I haven't worked up the courage to play the 2nd. Is this due to the game aging or was it this bad at release?

^ I finished it earlier this year and wasn't all that impressed with it either. It's not a bad game, but the repetitive nature (and, as you pointed out, sound bites) meant that I only wanted to play 2-3 chapters at once before needing to do something else (not being good at shooters in general and dying constantly didn't help.)

Granted, I went in thinking it was more of an adventure game and was surprised when I ended up with what was predominately a third-person shooter. That may be clouding my judgement slightly.

But yeah, while I didn't enjoy it as much as I'd hoped, I didn't dislike it enough to be turned off to playing the second game..... eventually.

It's possible that some of that is due to seeing newer games that were influenced by it, but refined the formula some. At the time, it was pushing the PS3 more than much else was.

The second game improves on the formula a good bit I think. Adds some things, and just basically goes bigger with the set pieces and stuff. I'd say it's the series high point so far, though 3 isn't bad either, just...felt like they scaled back a little to get it out on time, and make 3D feasible.

Neither try to be anything the first game wasn't though, still a linear, "part of an adventure movie" kind of thing.

Not only is PSX factually incorrect by now, it's also illogical. Unlike any other console manufacturer, Sony decided to to name their consoles using a chronological order, so PS(1), PS2, PS2 and PS4 are very clear and logical terms. Even ignoring the fact that Sony has indeed launched a PSX, I still don't see a reason to use the term as no other console is reffered to as by their development name.

I think Microsoft really screwed up with calling there new system Xbox One. I've never seen use "oXbox" before, but now it makes sense with the 3rd system being called the Xbox One.

And when i first saw people use PSX i was confused, but after i learned it meant PS1 it didn't bug me. But most people i've seen(me included) use PS1.

Agreed. Though a lot of people think Xbone is a insult on the console sense people were using it before Microsoft changed there DRM policies. But for me Xbone rolls off the tongue nicely. For internet use X1 or XB1 looks good to.

With all these discussions about the correct way to say console names, I should mention every single Playstation is just known as the Playstation here. Kind of like iphones.

Most of the praise for the game is because it was pretty much the best PS3 exclusive when it came out. It was one of the first games to truly wow us with the PS3 hardware and even today I am impressed by how good it looks, considering that it was a rather early PS3 game.

I don't think it's aged horribly or anything, but yeah several games have since come out that leave it in the dust, including the sequel.

As for the sequel, you have to keep in mind that these games are about set pieces and explosions. They are basically the pinnacle of the movie game. If you go into them expecting some deep and revolutionary gameplay you are setting yourself up for disappointment. If you just enjoy the ride and appreciate them for what they are, they can be rather entertaining.

Nintendo themselves said the correct abbreviation for the GameCube is the GCN. No idea why though. Can anyone remember?

Yeah, I kind of do the same thing with NES and SNES. For some reason that S makes it too long for me to pronounce the entire acronym and I end up saying "sness."

I don't remember anyone ever using the acronyms back in the day. It's not like we had any other Nintendo systems to compare them to and we weren't typing their names all the time so we didn't have to. The NES was just "The Nintendo."

In my house I didn't own a VCS/2600, NES or Genesis. I owned an Atari a Nintendo and a Sega.

I think they didn't want to use GC and confuse it with Gameboy Color even though that was using the official acronym of GBC. Still you can see how it could hypothetically get mixed up. I don't know why they went with GCN instead of NGC though. Nintendo Game Cube sounds a lot nicer than Game Cube Nintendo.

But it makes sense that they'd want it to be three unique characters to be instantly recognizable and avoid confusion in print. It's similar to the early PSX abbreviation in that regard.

I always figured they went with GCN because of the NGPC.
