There is in the case of PSX.
The problem isn't that terms are unclear, the problem is that they're illogical.
I think people will have no trouble discerning if you're talking about an old DVR or the original PlayStation through the power of context.
EDIT: I think the logic is easy to get. oXbox = Original Xbox, people know which one you're talking about. GCN is what Nintendo referred to the GameCube internally (at least I believe I read that some where.) PSX may be a dev name, but it persisted in gaming culture after it was released, there was even a magazine called PSX. It stuck for some people. There was no gaming mag called Dolphin or Katana.

I still think we should go: Xbox, 360, XBONE.
Heh, nice. I don't have a problem with people referring to the first Xbox as Xbox, but I still don't see a problem with oXbox, either.
I don't really care for XBONE, I'll probably refer to it as ONE or X1.

"I played [insert oPSXOne game here] on my PSX yesterday"

Why would you have a problem referring to a product with the proper name? The two words are exactly the same.
Stark wrote:but I still don't see a problem with oXbox, either.
The o is unnecessary. Xbox 360 has that 360 in the title to differentiate it from the original Xbox. Xbox-> Xbox 360-> Xbox, 360, Xbox One/Xbone/X1, what ever abbreviation people will start using in the future.
PS-> PS2. No one talks about "oPS".
Wii->Wii U. No one talks about "oWii".

I'll probably regret responding to such an inane debate, but people quite often refer to the Xbox 360 as "the Xbox," in the same way the Super Nintendo was still "the Nintendo" to a lot of people.

I usually just key their car or leave a dead animal at their doorstep when I hear some one doing that

"GCN" was the "official" abbreviation and it's going to stay.
"oXbox" will continue to be useful so long as people still refer to the 360 as "the Xbox"
Nobody in the history of ever has actually heard someone say "I'm gonna go play my PSX" and actually thought they were talking about the fucking DVR.

O neXbOneXboneAnyway, the only one I agree with in this discussion is PSX, it has always been dumb. PSOne for the little guy and PS1/PS in general.

People who pronounce the NES as "ness" or the SNES as "sness" make me downright homicidal.

The Ps1 was called "Psx" long before anybody even
thought of cramming a DVR into a Ps2.

Okay I can get on board with this.
