Your friend HANDED you a 32" Sony Trinitron?!?! That's impressive, because I can't even lift mine by myself (bad joke). Seriously though, I have a 32" Trinitron and it's just a monster. I'm really not even sure what to do with it, I was saving it as a backup but I've been thinking about getting rid of it just because it's such a pain in the ass. The 27" CRTs that I have are a pain to move, but I can lift them by myself if I have to. The 32" though, I have to move it around with a hand truck and I cannot lift it by myself. I'm thinking about getting rid of it just because of how inconvenient it is. I don't even have anything strong enough that I can put it on top of.
Anyway, congrats. Trinitrons really are nice screens, and 32" is a nice size.
If I weren't uncertain about living here longer, than I'd offer to take that 32" from you. Not sure I want to drive all the way out there for a TV though!
I just re-setup my old systems and pulled out my 13" Sony Trinitron I had been holding onto. It sadly only has composite but things still look sharp and there is nothing like that.

For retro gaming, I'll take a CRT with only composite over an HDTV any day. Especially a Trinitron, those things looks great!
Does yours have stereo audio input? Or only mono? My 13" Trinitron only has a mono audio input, so I made an adapter to turn stereo signals into mono. If you're interested, I posted the info here: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=50518#p1050520
Oh agreed for sure. I have a little flat panel next to it for systems that have component and composite doesn’t look bad on it due to its size and absolute handle lower signals. But, nothing beats that CRT with a Genesis or NES.
It is just mono as well. I have an adapter that takes the L/R into one Jack.
I had thought about modding my 13" Trinitron to accept RGB input, but I'm slightly terrified to open a CRT.

Just be careful if you have a Y splitter, which is only supposed to be use to split a signal and not condense it. Usually you wont damage anything, at least not right away, but doing this could cause damage over time. And in all cases there will be signal loss. There's a good article I found that explains it.
1 A PC SVGA Monitor 2 My main retro gaming set Toshiba 2877DB CRT which I used to replace a SONY KV-X2562U the Sony TV was better as it was flat panel but the Toshiba one will do 3 I also have a Sony widescreen KV-32FQ70U which is great but it doesn't work with light guns as it's 100hz TV for some reason however picture quality is great.
I have been trying to replace my old SONY KV-X2562U which stopped working but it has become a rare TV and also CRT's are becoming pricey as people are becoming more aware of their value as a retro gaming piece.
I recently upgraded to a much larger CRT that my friend gave me, finally used it a few times this week when I was checking some PS1 doubles before listing them on eBay. Seems like a great TV so far and the fact that it has stereo sound and AV inputs in the front is a big plus for me.
