Whoa, dude, you're not allowed to not like Pitfall

My personal feelings about it (like!) derive from it blowing my mind when I was 5 or 6 years old. What a paradigm shift that was. Don't get me started on Pitfall II... utterly world-shattering...

Anyway, did you play it as kid, or is your first experience with it as an adult? Or do you like other 2600 stuff, just not Pitfall?

I played it as a kid and again as a teenager.

I'm not fond of most 2600 stuff in general. I grew up with a Mega Drive, and whilst I'm happy to jump 1 gen back from there to the NES and Master System, I struggle to maintain interest if I jump back 2 gens instead.

I hear that. I have little interest in playing 2nd gen myself (except for Pitfall... I freakin love that game), and as a matter of fact, I struggle to stay interested in NES games. Now, I grew up with the NES, and it was a magical time, but... I'm with you. Currently I reside in a 4th gen to 6th gen sweet spot.

With Pitfall, I was 5 when it came out, and like I said, it was incredible. It was cutting-edge. It was genius. I'll always love it :D

Like AJ, it's not my favorite calendar but I do think it's a well varied one. I think all the games chosen 'make sense' as good picks. And I'll do my best to check em all out.

Here's where I'm at...

1. Star Control II (space sim thing?)
I don't know anything about it, but it's free and sounds like it'll encourage good conversation. So I'll try it.

2. Pitfall (platformer)
Love me some 2600 games. I'll pick up the PC Activision Anthology.

3. R-Type (shmup)
Not my favorite shmup, but the Amiga version of this is free from developer Factor 5. I'll play that.

4. Metal Slug (run-n-gun)
Metal Slug is $8 on Steam and has online co-op. I'll go this route and hope to play w/ some of you guys.

5. Pokemon red/blue/yellow (RPG)
I don't know. Maybe there's a fan remake on PC or something?

6. Oddworld (weird looking adventure thing?)
This one doesn't appeal to me much. I always thought these games looked really ugly. I'll get it on Steam I guess and give it a shot. Maybe I'll be surprised.

7. Alone In The Dark (horror)
Steam/GOG. Interested to play this.

8. Solomon's Key (puzzle)
I don't know much about this one. I'll probably try to find the DOS version.

9. Call Of Duty/Medal Of Honor (FPS)
I have COD. After that I might dig into COD2 which I already own. Maybe I'll look for a cheap copy of MOH. Not sure.

10. Knights Of The Old Republic (RPG)
Own it on Steam already. I loved Dragon Age Origins, so I'm looking forward to checking out another Bioware game.

11. Daytona USA (racing)
Love it. Will try to find the PC version. Maybe I'll get a wheel to play it with.

12. Harvest Moon (farm sim)
Meh. Maybe I'll look for a cheap PS1 copy. Don't know.

Didn't you used to have a Gameboy blog?

I miss Gameboy Player Land.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
