They could also do something like an Amiibo manager app that lets you swap around what data is on it. Or do something like use the limited memory to store your Nintendo ID, and key that to data in the cloud.

The basic issue is that the NFC tags have very little storage capability - 504 bytes for what I think they're using, with some of that reserved for other data already. Would be fine if it was just a unique code to unlock stuff, but it's very, very restrictive for actually storing data.

That's too brilliant of a solution for Nintendo. :P

Nah, it just wouldn't move zillions of almost-entirely-profit figurines.

I would really hope they make some kind of manager on the Wii U.

I've tried reading the information that's there, there's about 118 pages of values (very close to 504B of 32-bit numbers)

Everything is straight locked and not really visible, you can read the first couple values, since they're ID markers. The values that aren't locked are a password field and a password authentication field.

So, not only does the game have a password it has an encryption key too. And, it doesn't have to be the same for every amiibo figure.

That dashes my hopes of making an amiibo backup utility. :\

I would imagine Nintendo sees the overt popularity of the figures as a good thing, and probably wouldn't want to introduce anything yet that could potentially reduce that. Not until there's some kind of saturation point.

You just have to come to terms with why you purchased them in the first place.

You're talking to the guy that has purchased multiples of consoles to "get the best box".

Love ya, s1mple, but you're a tad crazy.

Hey! I'm getting better. I've only swapped out like six Amiibos for ones with cherry boxes. :P

If you're keeping them as any sort of investment - I have to think there are hundreds, maybe thousands of people doing the same thing - i've seen enough articles and forum posts of people commenting on old sealed games and trinkets and thinking it's a good investment - that many people strategically now do this; not realizing that so many others are doing it and thus making them not uncommon and thus...not worth much more than opened items.

Knowing you, i'm sure it's the former - so keep them sealed for fear of regret and just get a second set.

The former, yes. I mean, they looks equally cool naked. *sigh* More's the pity.

To makes matters worse, 12 new figures were announced today. Madness! These things are pure crack yo.

Ok, I will confess that I spent a couple minutes comparing 4 different Samus figures.

Some were crooked. Not taking that crap!

Totally first-world problems.

You're welcome. I have a full set too but two of mine have been opened - Link and Samus. My daughter wanted the costumes in MK8 and I figured I could just grab another pair but I probably won't. I feel that I am on the verge of opening them all up with the exception of Marth, WFT and Villager. The packaging looks so nice though. I should have bought a second set... :?

When my daughter, who is five, wanted to open Link I asked her why she wanted that one open and she replied "Because he is a hero." Sounded like a good reason to me.

I would LOVE a Rayman Amiibo but I know that will never happen.

I wonder if we'll ever start seeing vehicles. Arwing, Blue Falcon, Gunship, ect.
