How is your Saturn gaming going?
Re: How is your Saturn gaming going?
Soukyugurentai plays really funky on US saturns, when using an action replay or a similar device. sprite errors and a lot of text is fucked up. the re-release apparently fixes those issues, too.

A.) Those are the coolest looking things ever, congratulations on owning one. I'm happy just to have a skeleton model controller, but I do so want a full console. Maybe when I move to Japan.ninjainspandex wrote:I heard that Metal Slug on the Saturn will not work with the Skeleton Clear model, it has no issues on mine was wondering if anyone else has the clear saturn and noticed issues
B.) The SegaRetro page on Sega Saturn models speaks a little bit about the discrepancies between reported compatibility issues amongst skeleton model owners. There are three different releases of this model -- I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't some slight hardware variation between them.

Re: How is your Saturn gaming going?
The funny thing is that I actually did import that game back in 1998 alongside X-Men vs. Street Fighter and Grandia! Well, I mean I technically imported them. I had a game store close by that had maybe 10 import Sega Saturn games on a rack by the register. Back then, I was disappointed because my Christmas had basically been ruined by the low print-runs of Saturn software and lack of availability in my area -- I asked for Panzer Dragoon Saga and no one in the family could find it, and the same happened for Burning Rangers and Shining Force III. So I saved my money and bought a bunch of the import games -- the first time I'd ever bought foreign games. For some reason, they weren't terribly expensive either, which would have been peculiar for that time. They had those two and Soukyuugurentai Otokuyou, which all looked neat to me. I distinctly remember that I almost bought All Japan Pro Wrestling Featuring Virtua instead because I was such a huge Virtua Fighter fan at the time. I kept meaning to go back and buy that, but I never did.dunpeal2064 wrote:Come cool info there, I did not know Soukyugurentai behaved differently on a model 1 Saturn, nor that that was the reason for a re-release. I still love the original release, I just think its so charming that they actually had the game recognize the region and switch to terra driver, as if they actually expected people in the west to import the game.
Also, big congrats on Batsugun! I love and hate that game at the same time, although those feelings are directed more at Batsugun Special.
In case you didn't know, there is an arrange BGM built into the Saturn port (and the port includes both arcade pcbs).
Now to go for dat 4-ALL
I've still barely played the Special version, although I'm thrilled that it's on there -- I honestly didn't know that I was getting anything more than the original and I was already bursting with excitement. I've been trying to sink into the original before I play around with the Special version too much, just to extend my time with the title. I know that the graphics are different, but just how much different is the game outside of that?
Yeah, I listened to the arranged version for the first time once I got it home -- first thing I did after playing a quick credit. I would never be able to deprive myself of that amazing original soundtrack while playing, though -- seriously, I never thought I would play a game where every track hits me as hard with pure, ridiculous joy as the main theme of Space Harrier does. It's a really neat little bonus to have, though, and I enjoyed listening to the new versions as a distraction.

There's some English and what might be unfinished English graphics showing up when you play it on a US Saturn. Otokuyo locks it down in Japanese so there's no screwed up stuff going on.aaron wrote:Soukyugurentai plays really funky on US saturns, when using an action replay or a similar device. sprite errors and a lot of text is fucked up. the re-release apparently fixes those issues, too.

Watching my nephew sporadically play Albert Odyssey. I popped it in one day and he said that game looks fun. As most kids these days they quickly lose attention. He's been playing it on and off for about 2 weeks. Theres a certain part where you have to talk to a chief to trigger a event. For some reason it took several attempts to get this event to trigger. When i was watching him play he tried it ( im just watching and not telling him what to do) it wouldnt trigger. I tried it myself the next day and still nothing. I finally back pedaled some and got the event to trigger. He was like WTH i did that a few times. I said i know I dont think you did anything wrong. Maybe its a certain sequence you need to do.

picked up a 3D controller last night at a shop locally (they told me they had some saturn stuff in, turned out to be a 3D controller and a JP copy of Virtua Fighter Remix of all things). been playing some stuff with it. christmas nights is much more fun with the 3D pad, it had been a long time since i had used one.

Ugh, whilst i can certainly see its charm and possibly addictiveness i finally got around to playing Nights. I had it for a month and never played it I dont think im too high on it. I had just put a bid on a 3D controller to last night which if i win might turn around and resell it.
