Still time to get a Genesis, a cart, and stop being a filthy cheat. :P

I bought an X'Eye for my wife. But I'm not a Genesis collector.

If any of the shmups chosen are for PS1/2/3/N/P then I plan to buy them. Otherwise, I'll emulate to at least try to participate. Unfortunately, this month didn't seem to work out for me. :?

Yeah this is turning sour for what seems to be no reason, although your scores are very confusing. At this point, I'd just say log your score and system and be done with it. It's more about just having fun and talking about the game rather than complaining about how legit a score is in my opinion. Score competition is fun and all but with so many ways to play the software things get sticky.

This is why i'd prefer we get the entire list together now, or at least through July or something. We could all have time to acquire the physical game - ideally all on the same console. MAME is horrible.

Not trying to step on toes or run your thread, so just suggesting this...list maybe 3 games from each selected developer - we vote and select the games (maybe this all takes place over 10 days or something). Then, if applicable, we select the preferred version to be used (again, if it is something released on multiple platforms and the ports have significant differences). Just an idea - that was my peeve w/the shmups forums contest, no advance knowledge of the games meant we all had to emulate most/all the games.

Checking in with another sweet score. Got a little bit further in Stage 2. I had got enough Ps for the 3rd level of blue gun -- the Lightning X 5! Too bad it didn't last all that long -- the green rotating ships just APPEAR out of nowhere, all while breaking those light bulb things that shoot out at you! After I lost that first life, pretty much getting owned -- such is life (and crappy checkpoints) in Truxton.

yup. Y'know what? I'll keep playing. But just for fun. Please don't include my scores as part of the friendly competition. I have no idea why -- but they're just not right haha.

That being said, I really do think this is a fantastic game. I really wasn't familiar with Toaplan, so this has been eye-opening. The article here: http://hardcoregaming101.net/toaplan/toaplan.htm leads me to a lot to investigate and learn about as well.

OH OH and the music in Truxton is unbelievable!!!

RE: mj's suggestion about announcing the schedule -- do you have any idea when you plan to announce it? I for one would like the chance to purchase actual copies of the games. I'm far more likely to participate going forward if I can play real copies (including PSN, PS2 compilations, etc). This thread is actually pretty good proof of why I generally don't like emulation to begin with.

That article is great. Toaplan is up there with the best, definitely look into them more.

Well, I'm not completely sure how to go about it. I can piece together what devs we'll do right now, but after that we'll have to vote on what games I would think. People seemed more eager to vote on games so maybe that will work out.

Does updating the OP with a schedule of devs sound good and then we vote on games? I can just pick the games too if it comes down to it but I feel like a vote would be more fair.

Yeah, get a schedule up. Then let's spend 2-3 days voting on games for each dev so that by the end of January/start of February we are set for the year.

Okay, so these are the chosen:

Taito
Psikyo
Compile
Raizing
Konami
Irem
Takumi
Treasure
Capcom

I'll update the OP with more voting info and a schedule and such, but first... when is that whole shmups.org contest going on again? I need to know so I can omit that month while I'm ironing out a schedule. I'll update the OP as soon as someone reminds me. Also, any ideas on how I should do the schedule? Was thinking maybe keep the retros and manics together? Or the opposite, and do a retro one month and a manic the next.

Also the option of waiting until we vote for what games we're gonna play and then making a schedule based on that rather than based on dev.

(I know it seems like blasphemy to not include Seibu Kaihatsu, but they only got 4 votes, and two of the 4 vote devs had to get cut. We've got most of the major players though, and potential for a good blend of retros and manics.)
