Indeed.

Why would Sony learn? Class action lawsuits are a slap on the wrist. As long as they think they stand to be better off financially, even if they get busted, they'll do it. You'll notice that no criminal charges were filed in the rootkit fiasco, and none will be filed here. Sony is a major corporation so they get to play by a different set of laws than the rest of us.

Wasn't that rootkit essentially a Trojan that screwed up everything on people's computers?

Knowing them, they cut cost and used the same program.

NOBODY should fear that THEIR hardware can be disabled remotely just because they used it in a way that Sony doesn't like. They paid money for the hardware. That hardware is YOURS. Nobody else's. It's definitely not Sony's to do with as they please. If they want to pull shit like this then they GIVE you the hardware for free and charge you a subscription fee. Then they can do whatever the fuck they want with it, since you are leasing it. Pulling this sort of shit AFTER you have bought it is wrong. Absolutely, unequivocally wrong.

I don't think they'll do anything to your hardware. They'll just use this as a way to find out who has a hacked PS3 and ban them from PSN, like MS does.

It's a shame its come to this. I am not going to be upgrading past 3.55 until there is a CFW that removes any of Sony's rootkit capabilities. It also sucks because I enjoyed using the Netflix app so much, but that requires a PSN connection (really!?!?). I haven't modded my box yet but these revelations and useless required patches are forcing my hand.

It doesn't surprise me that Sony's taking this kind of a measure and playing dirty, seeing as how they got the shit hacked out of them with the whole Geohot incident.

I just think it's ironic: I haven't upgraded past my 3.55CFW, and don't plan on it. I'm still able to get online with the DNS trick, but I'm positive that won't last forever because Sony will most definitely crack down on it..
And when that happens - I'll buy every game I want to play multiplayer online with for my 360 and play it there..

Congratulations, Sony - by smacking your loyal fanbase in the face, you've effectively lined the pockets of your direct competition..

I miss the days where you just plugged in a game and played. I don't plan on hacking my PS3, as I can easily connect my laptop to my TV and emulate games that way, nor do I plan on downloading ISOs of PS3 games as that would pretty much kill my download cap we have on our internet. I would like to buy games on PSN, but I don't like the idea of Sony installing a rootkit on my PS3 either. I guess I won't update it for awhile. I guess if I don't i could download PSN games then maybe?

Quoted for Truthiness, there. Ever since the whole OtherOS removal fiasco, I've been buying non-exclusives (Armored Core 4, Bayonetta, Dynasty Warriors: Gundam, etc.) for my Xbox 360.

Looks like a PSN network ban for modded systems is in the immediate future.
