What was the last movie you've seen?
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
To go back to Watchmen, the major change was also intentional out of concern that they couldn't do the cross-dimensional species justice. I believe that aspect of the story was retooled with Moore's blessing. The rest of it is actually quite faithful. Not perfect, but faithful, and even the major change still rings true to the core of the story and leads to the same finale.

I thought Watchmen peaked with the introductory credits. Like, amazing A+ stuff. Says more in five minutes than most movies do in two hours. The rest of the movie? Eh, I don't remember that much of it, and I doubt I'll return to it. The HBO series was great though.

It was good and had some decent kills. Though the rules to the series' lore seemed to go off track and become wildly inconsistent after Bride of Chucky.

Watched this yesterday on Arrow Player:

Meh.

Excellent movie, right up there with Puss in Boots: The Last Wish as a must see DreamWorks movie. I heard The Wild Robot has already been greenlit for a sequel.

It's not trying to be a Wall-e knock-off, right? It doesn't really look like it, but sometimes Dreamworks will try to do stuff like that.

I haven't watched Wall-e but I want to, and now that you've reminded me I'll probably do it sooner rather than later. I also need to watch the Toy Story movies. The Wild Robot is based off of a book, so I don't think it can be considered a Wall-e knock-off.
I don't want to say too much about The Wild Robot as to not spoil anything, but it's a fun and poignant movie. It gets especially good in the second half of the movie, the first half is really setting stuff up for later. The whole movie is enjoyable though with some funny jokes and enjoyable characters. It goes without saying that it's a fine movie to watch with family. Moms especially will like this movie I think.
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
It's about a robot in a dystopian practically human-less world, so WALL-E is no doubt an influence, but it's not a soulless rip-off. I'm not a fan of most Dreamworks Animation movies, but this is good one, and Lupita Nyong'o gives an amazing performance.
There definitely are two distinct halves of the movie, but I disagree with RJ about which is better. I thought the first half was fantastic; touching and fresh. It deals with some hard truths in an honest way. To me, the second half was mostly boilerplate animated movie action, and it tells some feelgood lies about the world which always grates on me.
To go back to WALL-E, I kind of feel the same way about that film. At 100 minutes it's very good, but if it could have concentrated on the first half and come in at 45 minutes, it'd have been an all-timer. Of course, if you put out a 45 minute movie, no one would show up. It's too bad because particularly with movies marketed to kids, they can start out with startling originality and then end up on rails hitting every familiar Robert McKee story beat.

Good, but I've seen better from this franchise.
Also, kind of a cop-out that all but two stories revolve around aliens. I know it's supposed to be sci-fi focused but if they're going to put that much focus on aliens, why not just do ONLY alien stories? And that dog story was the most fucked up story in the whole film, if only because...

Transformers One is pretty good. The best movie since the 86 animated one, though Bumblebee was also pretty enjoyable. The difference between this and other Transformers movies in recent years, including Bumblebee, is getting a whole movie that is dedicated to Cybertron and G1 inspired Transformers. There's no human characters, which is something that some Transformers fans love about this movie. I don't mind humans in my Transformers, but sometimes they can be annoying. I got turned off by Transformers Prime because of an annoying human girl on that show.Jagosaurus wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 1:29 am Has anyone seen the new Transformers One movie yet? Been thinking of taking the family next weekend. Was a huge Transformers fan as a kid (cartoon & toys). Looks solid from previews.
Transformers One tells a pretty good origin story for Megatron and Optimus Prime. It's not perfect, but it's enjoyable. There's a few lame jokes, but there is also quite a bit of humor that works quite well. Some of the animation is excellent, with two particular action scenes that really stood out to me as being pretty awesome. There's some cool G1 references too and it's fun to spot some G1 characters who don't feature much in this movie but possibly might in the sequel.
The voice acting is pretty good too. Honestly, it's a solid Transformers movie and the reaction I have seen from Transformers fans online has been pretty positive so I think you'll probably like it too. I believe they've already confirmed that this is getting a sequel as well.
