It's not a gif. It's an animated PNG. Only certain webbrowsers support animated pngs. The rest just show the first frame of the animation, which is nothing but transparency for this particular animated png.BoringSupreez wrote:This is what I think of whenever I see that gif.

I see. So I guess the benefit of an animated png over a gif is that png's don't look grainy and have a wider range of colors?DinnerX wrote:It's not a gif. It's an animated PNG. Yup. You get as many colors as you would with a regular png. You can use transparency too, which gifs do not support as I recall.BoringSupreez wrote:I see. Re: Image Link Dump Thread.
They do, but just in that it marks one single color as transparent so you get stair step edges and halo ugliness if someone has a picture blending to a white background when they created it, but it is on a black background now for instance. I'm not sure if PNG does alpha channel blending so it can look nice on any color background or not.DinnerX wrote:get as many colors as you would with a regular png. PNG does support it. I found this out accidentally one day when I was doing some Doom editing. Inadvertently made my monster partially transparent.Hobie-wan wrote:They do, but just in that it marks one single color as transparent so you get stair step edges and halo ugliness if someone has a picture blending to a white background when they created it, but it is on a black background now for instance.
